Over the past 100 years, from primitive printed newspapers to modern digital media platforms, the country's press has affirmed its irreplaceable role in the country's development process. In particular, the new era of revolutionary journalism is opening up many opportunities but also many challenges for those in the profession.
New era of revolutionary journalism
100 papers by experts, scientists , researchers, journalists, leaders and managers on journalism aimed at deepening the scientific and practical significance of the event of 100 years of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism were sent to the National Scientific Conference "100 years of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism accompanying the glorious cause of the Party and the nation," which took place this afternoon, May 30, in Hanoi .
This has contributed to affirming the great contributions of the Vietnamese revolutionary press to the glorious cause of the Party and the nation through historical stages, starting with the newspaper "Thanh Nien" founded by President Ho Chi Minh on June 21, 1925. "This is not only a milestone marking its birth but also the beginning of the glorious journey of the Vietnamese revolutionary press over the past 100 years," Politburo member and Standing member of the Central Party Secretariat, Mr. Tran Cam Tu emphasized at the workshop.
Over 100 years of construction and development, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has made strong progress in terms of quantity, quality, programs, and publication content, and has initially mastered modern media technology. Many press agencies have developed into multimedia press agencies on par with the region and the world, and the team of journalists is increasingly strong, politically steadfast, professionally skilled, exemplary in professional ethics, and performing well in social responsibilities.
Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu affirmed that the Party and State always have high expectations and will create conditions and allocate more resources for the press to perform well its functions and tasks in the new era...; at the same time, highly appreciated the Workshop as the beginning of events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

Member of the Politburo, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council Nguyen Xuan Thang also analyzed the great contributions of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past 100 years.
According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, following the Thanh Nien newspaper (June 1925), many other revolutionary newspapers were published and were widely read by comrades and compatriots, becoming revolutionary proclamations that ignited strong belief in the ideal of national liberation, mobilized and gathered the masses, promoted patriotism, built revolutionary forces, and encouraged the people to rise up and smash the colonial and feudal rule.
On the journey of development, the Vietnamese press has actively promoted the spirit of innovation, encouraged creative thinking, praised new factors and new models, and spread the spirit of creative labor competition to all classes of people. Not only a means of communication, the press is also a bridge between the Party, the State and the people; between policies and practical life; promoting the role of leading and orienting public opinion, building social consensus.
Continuing that glorious tradition, today, the team of journalists continues to affirm their pioneering role in the fight against corruption, waste and negativity. Regardless of danger, many journalists and press agencies have devoted themselves to investigation, persistently pursuing to the end to expose violations, contributing to cleaning up the apparatus, protecting justice, maintaining discipline and the law, and strengthening the people's trust in the Party and the State.

How to improve journalism economy?
Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia said that 100 years of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism is an opportunity "to look back together on the journey of a century of steadfast, creative and inspiring revolutionary journalism, wholeheartedly serving the Fatherland and the people."
Accordingly, the delegates not only summarized the achievements and contributions of the Vietnamese revolutionary press, but also presented the new context and requirements for press work. Many experts, scientists, and journalists focused on analyzing and clarifying many different aspects of the current context, pointing out difficulties, highlighting opportunities, as well as new challenges and requirements for the revolutionary cause in general and press work in particular.
Reality shows that the negative impacts of the market economy and the expansion of international exchanges and cooperation have had and are having a significant impact on the life of journalism and the team of journalists in the country. In particular, the globalization process with the explosion of digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), big data (Big Data), Internet of Things (IoT), social networks... has brought both opportunities and fortunes but also posed many challenges for the team of journalists.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia requested that press agencies continue to build, consolidate and elevate a future generation of journalists with “sharp pens, pure hearts and bright minds,” imbued with the spirit of serving the country and the people. On the part of management agencies, it is necessary to build institutions and policies with orientation and create an environment for the healthy development of the press.

The Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission requested the urgent completion of the legal corridor, focusing on amending and supplementing the 2016 Press Law and guiding documents in the spirit of "not to prohibit but to create development." The legal framework needs to facilitate innovation, application of new technologies, and development of a healthy press economy, while at the same time more clearly defining the responsibilities and powers of entities in press and digital media activities.
In addition, it is necessary to develop and perfect the mechanism for ordering and assigning tasks to press agencies in carrying out essential information and propaganda tasks to serve political tasks. Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia also emphasized the need to improve the efficiency of press economics and promote international cooperation in press and media.
According to him, there needs to be new business models suitable for the digital environment such as: developing high-quality, exclusive content packages to be able to charge for reading newspapers online; developing e-commerce on newspaper platforms; providing value-added services based on data and content (analytical reports, media consulting); producing and trading digital content on other platforms...
The head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission affirmed that he will absorb the opinions contributed at the workshop, refine the proposals and recommendations to report to General Secretary To Lam and the Party and State leaders for their opinions on building a strategy for developing revolutionary journalism in the new era./.

In order for the Vietnamese revolutionary press to continue its glorious mission and accompany the nation in the era of rich, civilized, and prosperous development, Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu said that it is time to synchronously deploy a number of tasks and solutions.
Accordingly, Party committees at all levels, press agencies, and Journalists Associations at all levels need to thoroughly and deeply grasp the guiding principle that the Party absolutely and comprehensively leads press activities to meet the requirements of life and the revolutionary struggles of the Party and the People; actively and resolutely carry out innovation, reorganization, and streamlining of the press agency system in the direction of "refined, compact, and strong," building a team of cadres, reporters, and editors of press agencies with steadfast political will, intelligence, good professional expertise, and clean professional ethics.
In particular, it is necessary to continue to innovate and improve the quality, attractiveness and persuasiveness of information and propaganda work of the press system; pay special attention to the issue of press ethics; promote research, exploitation and application of scientific and technological achievements, especially information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in press and media activities...
