Dong Thap Provincial People's Council passed a resolution on merging with Tien Giang province.

Accordingly, delegates of Dong Thap Provincial People's Council voted to approve 8 draft Resolutions, notably the Resolution on approving the policy of rearranging commune-level administrative units of Dong Thap province and the Resolution approving the policy of rearranging Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces.

Thus, after the reorganization, Dong Thap province is expected to have a total of 45 commune-level administrative units (including 7 wards and 38 communes); reducing 96 commune-level administrative units, reaching a rate of 68.09%. All communes and wards ensure the principles and criteria for arrangement according to current regulations.

Regarding the policy of reorganizing Tien Giang province and Dong Thap province, establishing Dong Thap province on the basis of reorganizing Tien Giang province and Dong Thap province, the political - administrative center is located in Tien Giang province, with a natural area of 5,933.64 ^km2 , and a permanent population of 4,203,948 people.

In addition, delegates of the Dong Thap Provincial People's Council also unanimously approved the Resolution on the development plan for the system of economic zones, industrial parks, industrial clusters, and traditional craft village industrial clusters in the Provincial Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050; Resolution on the development plan for the trade sector, border economy, service sectors, production and business, and logistics services development in the Dong Thap Provincial Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050; Resolution on the overall development plan for energy and electricity in the Dong Thap Provincial Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

The remaining resolutions passed at this extraordinary meeting include: Resolution on the industrial development plan in Dong Thap province's planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050; Resolution stipulating principles, scope, support levels and the use of funds to support activities to protect and develop rice-growing land prescribed in Clause 2, Article 15 of Decree 112/2024/ND-CP dated September 11, 2024 of the Government in Dong Thap province; Resolution to abolish Resolution No. 296/2019/NQ-HDND dated December 7, 2019 of the Provincial People's Council stipulating policies to support investment in the construction of technical infrastructure for industrial parks in Dong Thap province.

Chairman of the People's Council of Dong Thap province Phan Van Thang requested that the Provincial People's Committee urgently complete the dossier of the Project on rearranging commune-level administrative units to submit to the Ministry of Home Affairs for appraisal, report to the Government to submit to the National Assembly Standing Committee according to the set schedule; at the same time, prepare a detailed plan for implementation immediately after the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee is issued, coordinate with the People's Committee of Tien Giang province to synthesize a report to send to the Ministry of Home Affairs for appraisal of the Project on rearranging provincial-level administrative units.
