VNREDSat-1 Earth Observation Satellite System has resumed operations.

VNREDSat-1 was launched into space on May 7, 2013, making Vietnam one of 25 countries in the world to have its own Earth observation satellite at that time.

VNREDSat-1 satellite is responsible for providing high-resolution data images to serve the management and monitoring of natural resources, environment, and natural disaster prevention... Designed to operate for 5 years, VNREDSat-1 satellite has operated stably and continuously for more than 10 years in orbit.

Since late 2021, the VNREDSat-1 satellite has encountered a serious technical error related to the hardware of the operating and control data storage system. This technical error exceeded the self-recovery capability, causing the system to temporarily stop operating and exploiting from November 9, 2021 to March 25, 2022.

Staff at the Small Satellite Control and Exploitation Center, Institute of Space Technology (now Vietnam Space Center) in collaboration with Vietnamese experts proactively fixed and completely restored the system control servers and brought the VNREDSat-1 satellite back to take photos in March 2022.

Then, at the end of 2023, the VNREDSat-1 satellite encountered a control system failure. Experts and staff of the Small Satellite Control and Exploitation Center of the Vietnam Space Center continued to fix the technical errors.

According to the preliminary assessment of the Small Satellite Control and Exploitation Center, the VNREDSat-1 satellite is still in good condition and can continue to provide images for Vietnam for the next one to two years...
