Ho Chi Minh City's healthcare system to undergo major changes from July 1

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that from today, the city's health system will have major changes with 2 branches and 124 affiliated public service units. The health sector is striving to establish a unified, flexible, and modern management mechanism to meet the increasing health care needs of the people.

From July 1, 2025, the city's health sector will have two branches and 124 units from one department and 57 affiliated public service units. These include 32 general hospitals, 28 specialized hospitals, 11 non-bed centers, 15 social protection centers and 38 regional health centers.

For the 443 existing ward and commune health stations, their tasks and functions will still be performed as they are now so as not to disrupt primary health care activities for the people.

Within 60 days after July 1, 2025, the Department of Health will convert into 168 ward and commune health stations corresponding to the number of new wards and communes and establish 296 health points.

The regional health center is responsible for prioritizing additional human resources for health stations and health points.

Doctor Ngo Thi Sau at Ward 15 Health Station in Phu Tho Ward, shared: “After July 1, ward and commune health stations will also change to fit the general model. Hopefully, when more investment resources are available, the health stations will have favorable conditions to serve the people better.”

For the medical examination and treatment network of 162 hospitals including ministerial hospitals, specialized hospitals, general hospitals and non-public hospitals.

The leaders of the Department of Health said that the new healthcare system, with its diverse types, increasing number of facilities, and expanding geographical scale, etc., pose many challenges in management. Therefore, in the coming time, the healthcare sector will focus on a unified, flexible, and modern management mechanism.

Focus on promoting the application of information technology and digital transformation in management and administration, ensuring reasonable allocation of resources, and enhancing connectivity between health facilities and levels.

The 115 emergency system, including one center and 45 satellite emergency stations, will have its satellite network expanded to cover the entire new area.

In addition, from July 1, in Ho Chi Minh City there are 110 social protection centers, including 15 public facilities and 95 non-public facilities.
