The province currently has 208 professional farmer associations, with 5,704 farmer members participating; 572 professional farmer association groups, with 3,629 members participating. The associations and groups operate according to the principles of "5 self" (self-awareness, voluntariness, self-management, autonomy, self-responsibility) and "5 together" (same profession, same concern, same responsibility, same sharing, same benefit).
Mr. Vu Duc Thuan, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association, said: From 2016 to now, the Association at all levels has organized over 350 conferences and training courses on the Law on Cooperatives, the State's support policies for agricultural cooperatives; skills to mobilize farmers to participate in building professional farmer associations and groups for over 23,000 association officials at all levels. The Association has also coordinated with agencies, units, localities, and credit institutions to support preferential loans, fertilizers, plant and animal varieties; at the same time, market information, connecting businesses and cooperatives inside and outside the province to link production and consume products for farmers.
Many models of cultivation, animal husbandry, services, aquaculture, seafood processing, small-scale industry, mechanics, construction materials... have been formed, contributing to the transformation from small-scale production methods to group linkage, intensive investment, and productivity increase. Typical examples include the An Phu Fruit Tree Farmer Association, Chieng An Ward, Son La City; the Pig Farmer Association in Bay Village, Tong Co Commune, Thuan Chau District; the Cow Farmer Association in Banh Village, Pung Banh Commune, Sop Cop District and Hang Trung 2 Village, Van Ho Commune, Van Ho District; the Fruit Tree Farmer Association in Sap Vat Commune, Yen Chau District... Each household's revenue reaches 500 - 800 million VND/year.
Established in May 2023, the VAC Gardening Association of Muong Bu Commune, Muong La District has 17 members, investing in building a comprehensive farm; 2 livestock farms, with 100 buffaloes, 200 goats, 250 pigs, 1,000 poultry; planting 58 hectares of fruit trees and raising fish in ponds. The income of member households ranges from 500 million VND to 1 billion VND. Typical are the households of Mr. Vu Dang Ke, Doan Van Hoc, Lo Van Thuong, Lo Van On, sub-area 2; Mr. Do Thanh's household, Gian village and Ca Van Chom, Cop village...
Mr. Vu Dang Ke, Head of the VAC Gardening Association of Muong Bu Commune, said: The Association has coordinated to organize 4 training courses on cooperative management techniques; instructions on the process of care, watering, using fertilizers, pesticides, pest control for fruit trees; disease prevention and treatment for livestock and poultry... Organizing for members to study production experience in the provinces: Dien Bien , Lang Son, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, Quang Binh. Every year, 100% of member households register to compete in good production and business. In 2024, there will be 3 good production and business households at the provincial level, 14 households at the district level.
In Thuan Chau district, 8 professional farmer associations and 22 professional farmer groups have been established in the following fields: aquaculture, intensive farming, fruit garden renovation, squash growing, cattle and pig raising... Each association and professional group has from 5 to 20 members, and is given access to preferential capital from the Farmers' Support Fund, trust capital from the Bank for Social Policies, and the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development to invest in livestock and crop development, contributing to increasing income for members from 200 million VND or more per year.
Continuing to encourage and support farmers to build collective economic models, cooperate in production and product consumption, the Provincial Farmers' Association focuses on directing grassroots associations to review and select models, traditional occupations, and local strengths, and to propagate, mobilize, and guide farmer members to establish more branches and professional associations.
Focus on models and projects that are being invested from capital sources from the Farmers Support Fund and the Bank for Social Policies. Select members, farmers who are good at production and business as the core to build branches and farmer associations with suitable occupations, ensuring the "5 together" criteria. At the same time, coordinate to organize vocational training, training, transfer of scientific and technical advances, contributing to improving the quality of branch and association activities at the grassroots level.
