History of formation and development
Lang Son Provincial Radio Station was established by the Provincial People's Committee under Decision No. 18 UB/QD-TC dated February 12, 1979. The structure at that time included the Board of Directors; 6 specialized departments: Editorial Department, Arts Department, Technical Department, Radio Operations Management Department, Planning and Finance Department, Organization and Administration Department; and 3 affiliated units: Radio School; Radio Enterprise; Radio and television repair shop.
The first radio program of the station was born in Dong Mo town, Chi Lang district at 7:00 a.m. on April 21, 1979, with the background music of the song Lang Son, my hometown. The announcer's voice said "This is Lang Son Radio Station" marking a memorable milestone in the birth of Lang Son Radio Station.
At that time, due to the young and mostly untrained staff, and the poor facilities, the quality of the program, despite many efforts, could not meet the requirements of fast and concise information, and there were few new programs that attracted listeners. However, given the circumstances at that time, it was a great effort. The ethnic people considered Lang Son Radio as a close friend, and many people, despite their difficulties, still tried to buy a radio and a few batteries to not only listen at home but also to bring along when going to the fields to listen to the program.
At that time, the technical equipment of the Station was very rudimentary, all the machinery and recording were done directly on the X-ray (Zin 131 Soviet-made) supported by the Voice of Vietnam . When operating, there were always 3 X-rays operating at the same time, of which 1 was used as a recording studio, 1 was used as a transmitter, and 1 was used as an engine to generate electricity for broadcasting. The radio journalists of the Station disseminated the directives and resolutions of the Central, the province, and the army to the people of all ethnic groups; encouraged typical examples of progress in labor production, heroic fighting examples... through mobile radio programs. Thereby, they encouraged cadres, soldiers, and people of all ethnic groups in the province to do a good job in protecting the border and building socialism...
In 1991, the People's Committee of Lang Son province issued Decision No. 127 UB/QD-TC dated March 18, 1991 on the establishment of Lang Son Radio and Television Station, marking a milestone with full operation of both radio and television broadcasting of Lang Son Radio and Television Station. After a period of preparation in terms of equipment, human resources and other related factors, through many trial broadcast programs, on September 2, 1991, Lang Son Radio and Television Station officially broadcast its first television program. That marked the birth of the type of spoken and visual newspapers in Lang Son and its full name is Lang Son Radio and Television Station.

Later, it was increasingly equipped with more modern equipment, digital camcorders using memory cards, images were increasingly sharp and reached HD, Full HD standards.
Regarding the early storage tapes, LSTV used Betacam/VHS tapes for broadcasting. Quite a while after the television was put into operation, program production was often carried out at the central headquarters (No. 9 Hoang Van Thu Street, Chi Lang Ward today), then the completed program tapes were brought to the PTTH Broadcasting Center, or more easily called the TV Broadcasting Station where the transmitter was located (now the Broadcasting Station 345 Bac Son Street, Hoang Van Thu Ward, Lang Son City) for broadcasting. Regarding the transmitter, in the 2000s, Lang Son Radio and Television Station only broadcast with a capacity of about 1kw, which was later upgraded thanks to the province's investment and support from major stations.
Implementing the Prime Minister's "Project on digitizing terrestrial television transmission and broadcasting by 2020" to convert analog television broadcasting signals to DVB-T2 digital terrestrial television. After completing the increase in television program duration from 9 hours/day to 18 hours/day, the Radio and Television Station focused resources on bringing LSTV channel to Vietnam cable television network, MyTV, Next TV at the end of 2012. By August 2013, Lang Son TV channel was broadcast on Vinasat satellite. On December 31, 2020, the signal was officially converted from analog to DVB-T2 digital terrestrial signal.
