Previously, the family of Ms. Luong Thi Hong Tuoi, Vat Hong residential group, Muong Sang ward, Moc Chau town mainly worked in agriculture and had low income. Realizing that there were many tourists visiting the village but there was no place to stay, in 2017, Ms. Tuoi built a homestay "Hoa Moc Mien" with a scale of 1,500 m² including: 1 stilt house, dining room, garden to serve tourists staying in the community. In addition to serving food and accommodation, creating a new experience for tourists, Ms. Tuoi invested in agriculture associated with tourism. With 2,000 m² of land, her family grows strawberries to serve tourists to experience strawberry picking in the garden; introducing to tourists the cultural and natural beauty of Moc Chau, about the traditions of the Thai ethnic group...
Ms. Tuoi shared: Currently, my family welcomes 15-25 groups of guests/month. In addition to homestay services, my family also opened a catering service, with the menu featuring typical dishes of the Thai ethnic group. Every year, after deducting expenses, we earn more than 300 million VND and create seasonal jobs for 10 female workers.
In E Tong commune, Thuan Chau district, after participating in the model of raising 3,000 native black chickens in the direction of biosafety implemented by the District Agricultural Service Center at the end of 2021. After 4 months, seeing the chickens growing well, and the increasing demand of customers, Ms. Lo Thi Buoi, To village mobilized families to join together to establish the Efarm E Tong Ecological Agricultural Cooperative to expand the scale of farming.
Ms. Buoi shared: On average, each year, the cooperative sells more than 4,000 black chickens. In addition, I also mobilized members to raise 100 more native pigs; grow ginseng, soybeans and black ginger... Total revenue is estimated at more than 1.2 billion VND/year. Expanding the consumption market, the cooperative sells products on social networks, clean food stores in Hanoi and some other provinces. Thanks to that, the average income of member households reaches 80-200 million VND/year.
Currently, the whole province has many ethnic minority women who have successfully started their own businesses by promoting local strengths, typically: Ms. Lo Thi Dung, Huoi Quynh village, Chieng Pha commune with a fruit tree growing model earning 500 million/year. Ms. Cam Thi Mon, Long Nghiu village, Chieng Chung commune, Mai Son district with high-quality coffee products. Ms. Luong Thi Vinh, Na Mac village, Gia Phu commune, Phu Yen district with a livestock farming model and Ms. Ha Thi Thuan, Phu Yen town with the project "An xoa Uyen Thuan - Inheriting the quintessence of traditional medicine, developing medicinal plants and products from medicinal plants" ...

Implementing the Project "Supporting women to start businesses in the period of 2017-2025" in the province (called Project 939 for short), the Provincial Women's Union coordinates with departments, branches, sectors and localities to closely follow the content of the Project, focusing on organizing training courses for specialized union officials at all levels and members of cooperatives and cooperative groups owned or managed by women on business management skills; connecting product consumption; selling on social platforms. Creating conditions for members to borrow capital from funds managed by the Union to develop and expand production and business activities...
In addition, the Provincial Women's Union organized many contests on creative startup ideas that attracted a large number of members to participate, such as: Women's Startup Day; "Son La Women Start a Business with a New Cooperative Model"; "Son La Women Start a Creative Business and Green Transformation"... From 2019 to now, 161 ideas have been supported by the Union to materialize; 31 cooperative groups and 18 cooperatives managed by women have been established with support from the Union; 844 women members have been supported to start a business and start a business.
Notably, in 2023, Son La province has 3 cooperatives and enterprises owned by women with startup ideas selected to participate in the national preliminary round of the "Women's Startup - Promoting Indigenous Resources" Contest. Three excellent projects won prizes, including: The project combining modern technology and traditional experience in producing green fashion products for export on the basis of exploiting rare indigenous plant genetic resources of Vietnam (raw material area in Yen Chau district) won first prize; The project to develop poultry farming and agricultural services of EFARM E Tong Ecological Agriculture Cooperative, Thuan Chau district and the project to develop and replicate the specialty coffee processing model of ARATAY Coffee Cooperative, Mai Son district, won the consolation prize.
Ms. Vi Thi Binh, Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union, said: The Union has sent staff to directly survey 58 cooperatives, cooperative groups, and business households in districts and cities; selected 38 units and enterprises to participate in the projects. Supported the establishment of 7 cooperatives with women participating in leadership and management; supported trees and seedlings for poor members to develop the economy, with a total value of over 500 million VND. At the same time, the Union at all levels created conditions for members to access loan sources and invest in production development. To date, the whole province has maintained nearly 1,100 savings and loan groups, lending to more than 135,000 households, with a total outstanding debt of over 1,800 billion VND.
The start-up movement not only helps female members increase their income and improve their lives, but also opens up job opportunities for many local workers, especially women in remote and difficult border areas. The Provincial Women's Union continues to effectively deploy support from Project 939, adding confidence and motivation for members to boldly start their own businesses, gradually affirming their role and position in economic development, contributing to promoting gender equality and building a sustainable and developed community.
