Retired principal, 90-year-old associate professor, donated 2 billion VND to the school as scholarships

On the morning of November 3, Associate Professor Doan Van Dien - former Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry - transferred 2 billion VND to this school to create a scholarship fund for poor students and lecturers.

Dr. Tran Dinh Ly, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, said that Associate Professor Doan Van Dien, former Principal of the school for the 1989-1994 term, signed a contract to donate 2 billion VND to the school to establish a scholarship fund for Associate Professor Dr. Doan Van Dien.

According to the contract, the entire amount of 2 billion VND and the interest will be deposited in the bank, used to award scholarships to students in difficult circumstances who strive to excel in their studies and to reward lecturers who have made many contributions to teaching and scientific research.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry maintains the original funding of 2 billion VND, only awards scholarships and rewards from bank interest, and develops long-term scholarships through the terms of the principal.

Scholarships are awarded annually on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the new school year for students and on Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20 for lecturers. The school is responsible for publicizing the program, ensuring the selection is transparent and meets the criteria.

Dr. Tran Dinh Ly said that the Associate Professor, Dr. Doan Van Dien Scholarship Fund is a fund with profound humanitarian significance, demonstrating the spirit of gratitude, continuing the tradition of "respecting teachers", and at the same time contributing to nurturing the dreams and aspirations of learning of the young generation.
