Once in Phi Lieng and Da K'Nang communes (now Dam Rong 1 commune), we went to the specialized macadamia forests of more than 15 hectares, and noted the initiative, creativity, daring to think and act of the member farmers. Mr. Phan Van Hoi, who is both the chairman and a member of the chain linking 4 farmers here, said that over nearly 15 years, all the linked farmers have gradually converted each area of old, low-income industrial crops to macadamia trees according to sustainable farming solutions. In which, the first 5-year period accounts for about 50% of the intercropping area and 50% of the specialized area.

In the next 5 years, the conversion continued to reach 100% of the specialized macadamia area. In particular, there was a farmer who joined forces to mobilize machinery to simultaneously destroy all old industrial trees, reserving the entire ecological space for specialized macadamia trees of up to 4 hectares. As a result, after nearly 15 years, the specialized macadamia trees according to organic processes achieved an annual yield of about 25 kg/tree, with an estimated profit of at least 500 million VND/ha/year.
In Tan Ha Lam Ha commune (Hoai Duc commune, old Lam Ha district), Sao Vang Macca brand achieved 4-star OCOP and 5-star OCOP potential thanks to building a large-scale, high-quality linkage chain.
Accordingly, Sao Vang Macca brand invested in upgrading the processing line to reach high capacity with domestic and foreign food safety quality standards, proactively sourcing raw materials, linking stable production according to good agricultural practices with 20 households in the area, each household specialized in and intercropped 1-2 hectares. In the past 2 years, Sao Vang Macca brand has produced and processed hundreds of tons of fresh macadamia raw materials each year according to orders for consumption in domestic and export markets.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong , the province currently has 75 facilities for purchasing, processing and processing macadamia nuts, with a capacity of about 6,000 tons of raw materials/year. The main product lines that are popular in the market are: cracked dried macadamia nuts and macadamia nuts. In particular, nearly 10 chains have been built and developed to purchase, process and consume macadamia products with a total area of nearly 1,300 hectares and 1,168 farming households, with a harvest output of more than 1,000 tons/year.
Besides the Sao Vang Macca brand, the 15-hectare chain of the farmer Phan Van Hoi mentioned above, there are many other units leading each chain that are also operating effectively such as: Viet Xanh Trading and Service Company Limited, Hoang Anh Macca Company Limited, TH Agricultural Service Cooperative, Macadamia Macadamia Cooperative, Quang Truc Safe Agriculture and Trade Cooperative...
As a result, the total macadamia raw material area of the province has reached nearly 16,000 hectares, including an area in the business period of 6,600 hectares, with an output of about 13,700 tons in 2025, an increase of 48% compared to 2024. The source of macadamia seeds to meet the production needs of the province includes 5 recognized leading gardens with a total area of more than 10 hectares, with an exploitation capacity of about 1 million buds and shoots/year.
“Macadamia trees are identified as a crop with high economic potential, suitable for the climate and soil conditions of the Central Highlands in general and Lam Dong province in particular. Faced with the impacts of climate change, macadamia trees are being encouraged to expand their cultivation area in association with the development of raw material areas and processing industry, contributing to the restructuring of the agricultural sector in the area,” emphasized a representative of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong.
Accordingly, by 2030, the whole province strives to achieve a total macadamia cultivation area of 37,000 hectares, with an estimated output of about 48,000 tons. The target area and output of macadamia by 2050, the whole province will reach 50,000 hectares and 90,000 tons, respectively, thereby forming and developing a complete value chain from seed production, building raw material areas to preliminary processing, deep processing, enhancing trade promotion to connecting and expanding domestic and export markets.
