Coach Amorim: 'Man United has no chance of winning the Premier League'

Ahead of the 2025-2026 Premier League season, coach Ruben Amorim admitted it will be difficult for Man United to compete for the championship.

After a poor season finishing 15th in the Premier League in 2024-2025, coach Ruben Amorim had to admit that Man United's goal this season is simply a European Cup spot. This is far from the expectation of competing for the championship in the past.

Despite spending more than £200m on new signings Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, the Portuguese tactician urged fans to be realistic.

"We want to get back into Europe but as manager of Man United it's difficult to say that. Man United need to be realistic with their fans," he told The Telegraph .

The Portuguese tactician added that even qualifying for the European Cup would be a tough battle, as many of his opponents have been with the club for longer. However, Amorim insisted that the team would fight with all their might.

"I can't change everything in four weeks, but we're getting better. We're training harder, so Man United are better prepared to deal with every match," coach Amorim expressed confidence.

Amorim has had a full pre-season since he was appointed to replace Erik Ten Hag in November last year. The atmosphere at the club has also changed positively with the facilities and training ground at Carrington being refurbished. This is in stark contrast to a year ago when Ten Hag admitted the team were not ready for the new season.

Attention has been focused on new signings, particularly striker Benjamin Sesko, who was signed from RB Leipzig for £66.4m, with concerns raised about whether he can adapt to the physical demands of English football.

However, coach Amorim said Sesko has been training very hard to improve his fitness and be ready for the season opener against Arsenal on the evening of August 17. New signings Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha could also make their debuts in this match.
