"Nguyen Hai Long is in the Southeast Asian All-Stars squad for the match against Manchester United in Malaysia," the Hanoi FC homepage reported on the evening of May 7.
Coach Kim Sang Sik's call-up of Hai Long may be due to the Korean strategist being forced to remove Quang Hai from the list. The reason is that the midfielder of the Hanoi Police Club is busy competing in many important fronts in both domestic and regional tournaments in the coming time.
Coach Polking once said he did not want Quang Hai to go to Malaysia to play a friendly match with Man Utd and would ask the club to intervene.

According to the match schedule, in addition to the V-League entering a tense period and the Hanoi Police Club having to play 2 make-up matches on May 29 and June 3, they also participate in 2 finals of the 2024-2025 Southeast Asian Club Cup.
Thus, if Quang Hai does not participate in the match against Man Utd, the Vietnamese team will still contribute 3 names: Duy Manh, Hoang Duc and Hai Long.
Speaking about the upcoming match, Coach Kim Sang Sik shared: "It is a great honor to lead the best players from all ASEAN countries in a match of such importance.
We are not only representing our countries but showing the world the pride, spirit and strength of our region."
Regarding the preparation of the Southeast Asian All-Star team, coach Kim Sang Sik is facing many difficulties in terms of personnel when many players have withdrawn despite being on the call-up list, including players from Thailand (Nicholas Mickelson), Indonesia (Ferarri) and Malaysia (Dominic Tan and Aguero).
Recently, coach Kim Sang Sik was also forced to call Khoulibali Abdel to replace striker Nieto (Cambodia) because this player was not eligible to play.
The match between the Southeast Asian All-Stars and Man Utd will take place on May 28 at Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Man Utd is committed to using its strongest lineup for this match.
