Broken arm, student from "city within city" still competes for a spot in 6th grade

On the morning of May 24, more than 3,500 students in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City - "a city within a city" - competed fiercely in the form of a survey to find a place in grade 6 at three top local schools: Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School, Hoa Luu Secondary School, and Binh Tho Secondary School.

This year, Hoa Luu Secondary School has the highest competition ratio of 1/4.92. The school has 1,206 candidates registered to take the 6th grade exam for the 2025-2026 school year, with a target of 245 students.

Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School has 1,236 candidates registered for the 6th grade exam for the 2025-2026 school year with a target of 315 students. The school's competition ratio this year is 1/3.92.

Binh Tho Secondary School has 1,094 candidates registered to take the 6th grade exam for the 2025-2026 school year with a target of 280 students, a competition ratio of 1/3.9.

Multiple choice section: Students answer 20 multiple choice questions in English about their understanding of natural sciences , social sciences and common sense (30 minutes).

Essay section (60 minutes) includes: English proficiency test: reading comprehension, writing (candidates take the test in English); math and logical thinking ability test (candidates take the test in Vietnamese); reading comprehension and writing ability test (candidates take the test in Vietnamese).

Students can only register to take the survey at one of the three schools above. The survey results of the registered school will not be used for admission to the other two schools.

Mr. Nguyen Thai Vinh Nguyen, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, said that this morning a student at the Binh Tho testing site broke his arm, and the examination board arranged for a supervisor to assist the student in taking the test according to the parents' wishes.

Mr. Nguyen shared that the survey related to the children's learning is related to localeducation . Students who understand Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City will have better results.

Parents do not need to ask their children to practice a lot because just finishing the primary school program, especially grade 5, is enough to ensure that they have enough ability to take the exam. Students learn English from grade 1, studying at school is enough for them to use English skills to do the test.
