Teamwork and victory come from careful preparation
Coach Kim Sang-sik said that what pleased him most was the players’ persistent efforts and willingness to learn during more than a month of preparation. From the first match against Laos U.23 to the final, the whole team became more and more confident, disciplined and understood tactics. That, according to him, was the key factor that brought the team to the championship.
He emphasized that although some players such as Van Khang, Dinh Bac or Trung Kien had worked with him before, the majority of the squad was still new faces. Building a united block, combined with careful analysis of opponents to come up with suitable tactics, helped U.23 Vietnam play effectively and create a unique playing style.

Turn away pressure into motivation
Facing the huge pressure from the Gelora Bung Karno stadium with a sea of people wearing red shirts, Coach Kim revealed that he reassured his players that those people wearing red shirts were also cheering for U.23 Vietnam, because the team itself was wearing the traditional red shirt. According to him, orienting the mentality and arousing a positive competitive spirit helped the players maintain their confidence in the crucial match.

Emotional Control – The Key Beyond the Boundary
When asked about his rather aggressive reactions to the referee, Coach Kim said he is always aware of his limits. Although his actions sometimes stem from high emotions, he still tries to stay calm and not let things get out of control. Each reaction is tactically calculated, and importantly, he avoids being sent off as has happened in some cases in the past.

However, the coaching staff will continue to look for new players, including overseas Vietnamese players. Although he has not watched the match live, he and the VFF are studying strategic options to develop the national team.
