Coach Koji: 'The Cambodian team played better than Vietnam in the second half, it's just a pity that…'

Playing away at the Vietnamese team's home field, Cambodia chose a defensive counter-attacking style of play. In the first half, the away team could barely get the ball up and were down 2-0. In the second half, the Cambodian team played hard and in the 65th minute, Samuel Bong brought home a goal to reduce the score to 1-2. In the final minutes of the match, Cambodia had a few more scoring opportunities. However, the strikers from the "Kingdom of Angkor" could not take advantage of them, conceding a 1-2 loss.

The 1-2 loss on the evening of March 19 marked the sixth consecutive time Cambodia lost to the Vietnamese team. After the match, coach Koji Gyotoku commented: "In terms of ability, the Vietnamese team is superior in everything, from technique to physical strength. After the match, Cambodia has accumulated a lot of experience. The result is clearly not something I am too satisfied with, but today the players played quite well."

Although losing 1-2 to the Vietnamese team, compared to previous meetings, the Cambodian team showed clear progress. In the second half, the away team even had a time when they dominated the Vietnamese team, having many scoring opportunities.

Coach Koji Gyotoku pointed out the change: "In the first half, the Cambodian team could not get the ball, especially the midfield. There was a change in the second half, we controlled the ball more. If compared, Cambodia played better than the Vietnamese team in this half. We had a beautiful goal but Cambodia still had 1 or 2 more chances. I want more goals. Currently, I have found the problem and can make Cambodia progress more. We have some naturalized players, today they played well and that helped the team a lot."
