Thua Thien Hue's largest reservoir increases water flow to regulate water before warning of heavy rain for many days

Faced with warnings of heavy rains lasting for many days, Ta Trach irrigation reservoir - the largest reservoir in Thua Thien Hue province - increased water flow to regulate downstream to respond.


On the morning of December 23, the Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Thua Thien Hue province announced the operation of regulating water in Ta Trach lake in anticipation of heavy rain in the area.

Accordingly, from 1:00 p.m. on December 23, Ta Trach Lake - the largest reservoir in Thua Thien Hue province - will gradually increase the water flow to the downstream through the spillway and turbine with a flow rate of 385 to 550 m3/s.

The water level of Ta Trach Lake at 7:00 a.m. on December 23 was +45.59m (normal water level +45m), the water flow to the lake was 77m3/s, the flow downstream was 85 m3/s.

According to the Hydrometeorological Station of Thua Thien Hue province, from the night of December 23 to December 27, there will be scattered rain, moderate rain, heavy rain, and very heavy rain in some places. The total rainfall for the period is commonly 100-300mm, with some places over 500mm.

To cope with the bad weather, the Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Thua Thien Hue province has requested localities and units to notify owners of ships and boats operating at sea of ​​the developments of strong winds at sea so that they can proactively take precautions.

Thua Thien Hue Province's One Member Limited Liability Company for Irrigation Works Management and Operation is assigned to coordinate with localities to properly operate irrigation works and sluices across dikes, and have a plan to drain water to protect production in the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop.

Owners of irrigation and hydroelectric reservoir projects in the area are directed to organize monitoring and proactively develop specific operational regulation plans according to forecasted rainfall scenarios, based on rainfall developments to calculate operations to ensure safety of the projects and contribute to reasonable flood reduction for downstream areas...
