On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Dak Lak province, the National Record Institute inspected and established a record for Lak Lake (Lak District) as the largest natural freshwater lake in the Central Highlands in Vietnam.
After Lak Lake received the record title, many opinions said that Ba Be Lake ( Bac Kan province) is the largest natural freshwater lake in Vietnam, Lak Lake is only second.

On November 25, a leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak province said in the document requesting to establish a record with the name: "Lak Lake, Lak District, Dak Lak Province, is the largest natural freshwater lake in the Central Highlands - Vietnam", however, the Vietnam Record Organization under the World Record Union - Central Vietnam Record Association established the record as "Lak Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in the Central Highlands in Vietnam".

This leader said that there was a mistake in setting the record for Lak Lake and asked the Vietnam Records Institute to correct and adjust the wording.
Previously, on November 22, during the 120th anniversary of Dak Lak province, the organizing committee announced that 3 records were set, including: Dak Lak is the province with the largest coffee growing area in Vietnam (21,106 hectares); Lak Lake (Lak District, Dak Lak) is the largest natural freshwater lake in the Central Highlands in Vietnam (over 500 hectares); Yok Don National Park (Dak Lak) is the largest national park preserving the dry dipterocarp forest ecosystem in Vietnam.
According to Wikipedia, Ba Be Lake is a freshwater lake in Bac Kan, Vietnam. This is the largest natural freshwater lake in Vietnam, with an area of about 650 hectares and is one of the 100 largest freshwater lakes in the world.
