TPO - In her statement at the scene to the inter-agency team led by the Quang Binh Provincial Forest Protection Department, Ms. Ho Thi Vinh said she saw the tiger from behind its tail, with black and reddish-brown stripes, at a distance of about 30 meters.
Recently, the Quang Binh Provincial Forest Protection Department organized an inter-agency survey team including: the International Wildlife Conservation Organization (FFI), the Quang Ninh District Forest Protection Unit, the Quang Ninh District Protective Forest Management Board, the Lang Mo Border Guard Post, the Quang Ninh District Police, and Ms. Ho Thi Vinh (the person who saw the tiger) as a guide.

The survey team followed the routes and trails in the Dìu Đo forest area (Truong Son commune, Quang Ninh district) where the tiger was suspected to have appeared, taking photographs and collecting relevant traces and samples.
At the scene, Ms. Ho Thi Vinh recounted that on June 3rd, she and three other women went into the forest to collect rattan. While she was searching for rattan vines to harvest, she spotted a tiger with black and reddish-brown stripes, about 30 meters away from her, from behind its tail.
At the scene, Ms. Vinh recounted seeing the tiger. |
Terrified, she ran back to the hut to tell everyone, but no one believed her. However, later, while picking leaves to stir-fry, Ms. Tha, a member of the group, came face-to-face with the tiger about 20 meters away.
Based on Ms. Vinh's account, the survey team finalized the GPS coordinates for professional purposes, marking the tree stumps in the area where the locals saw the tiger for further research.

On the same day, the Quang Ninh District Protective Forest Management Board announced that they had destroyed 46 animal traps placed in the protective forest in the area where locals had seen tigers.
As Tien Phong newspaper reported, after some residents of Truong Son commune reported seeing tigers, the functional agencies of Quang Binh province and Quang Ninh district actively investigated the matter, advising people to be vigilant and maintain a safe distance. At the same time, they urged people to report any sightings of wild animals resembling tigers to the forest protection agency and competent authorities for appropriate action, and to absolutely refrain from hunting, catching, or trapping wild animals illegally.
