A typical case is Mr. Le Van Ch. (born in 1973, Phu Loc commune, Tan Chau town) with mitral valve regurgitation, due to a rupture of the anterior leaflet ligament at stage D and severe tricuspid valve regurgitation, stage II heart failure. The hospitalized patient was indicated for heart surgery, the doctor advised the treatment cost of about 100 million VND, but the family could not afford it, because of very difficult circumstances. The family borrowed money from relatives everywhere and could only afford 45 million VND. Faced with that situation, the Director of An Giang Cardiovascular Hospital mobilized Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thang (Ho Chi Minh City) to support the patient with the remaining debt of nearly 40 million VND to save the patient's life.

Mr. Le Van Ch. shared: “I am the breadwinner of the family, having spent a lot of money on heart disease treatment for many years, and raising my children to go to school. Two years ago, I was scheduled for heart surgery at Cho Ray Hospital, but I could not afford the treatment, so I continued to receive medical treatment and had to be hospitalized many times a year. The hospital supported my surgery, and now my health has completely recovered and I have been discharged. I sincerely thank Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thang for sponsoring me for the surgery so that I can have a healthy life and take care of my family.”

Like Mr. Ch., Ms. Le Thi Tuyet N. (born in 1972, Vinh Trach commune, Thoai Son district) suffered from severe mitral valve stenosis, stage II heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and had to undergo mechanical mitral valve replacement surgery, with a treatment cost of 110 million VND. While patients with long-term heart disease are very expensive to treat. Especially with the loss of labor, 2 children working for hire, the family's circumstances are very difficult, unable to pay the hospital fees. The family could only afford 20 million VND, the rest the hospital mobilized to support nearly 90 million VND for heart surgery. "In the most difficult time, our family was fortunate to receive help from the hospital. I will never forget the gratitude of Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thang for sponsoring 90 million VND for my heart surgery, helping me regain my life" - Ms. Ch. was moved.

Since then, the hospital has supported many poor patients who cannot afford treatment, so the cost is much cheaper than in Ho Chi Minh City. Through that, we sincerely thank the sponsors who have accompanied and joined hands with the hospital to carry out social work, support poor patients and especially difficult cases to receive free heart surgery. These are very valuable gestures. The sponsorship money is truly meaningful, supporting and bringing patients back from the brink of death. Head of the Social Work Team, An Giang Cardiovascular Hospital Nguyen Thi Ngoc Han said: Over the past 5 years, the hospital's Social Work Team has carried out many meaningful activities. Connecting with the provincial humanitarian facilities, the Long Xuyen City Charity Association provides about 60 - 80 free meals and porridge for poor patients at the hospital gate every day. Consulting and guiding patients on medical examination and treatment procedures, health insurance benefits for over 110,000 visits/year.

In particular, the hospital's board of directors paid attention to helping and supporting patients in difficult circumstances to have heart surgery. The social work team actively mobilized and connected with a number of benefactors to support 2.245 billion VND to help 45 patients have heart surgery and 168 patients received support for hospital treatment costs. Of which, more than 1.2 billion VND in cash was through the hospital's social work team; 346 million VND was directly supported by benefactors to patients; 1 ambulance worth 680 million VND and some epidemic prevention and control equipment worth about 12 million VND.

Many philanthropists have accompanied and supported poor patients with heart surgery, contributing to saving the lives of patients such as: Director of Tan Thang Investment Construction and Trade Company Limited (Long Xuyen City) Tran Dong Xuan sponsored 530 million VND to support 15 patients with heart surgery, 1 patient with a pacemaker and support hospital fees for 22 patients with internal medicine treatment. Nun Nhu Nhu and Venerable Thich Nhu Ngoc, Deputy Abbot of Phap Hoa Pagoda (Long Xuyen City) sponsored 705 million VND (1 ambulance, some means of epidemic prevention and control and support for patients with heart surgery).
