When merging localities and streamlining the apparatus, Nghe An will no longer be the largest province in Vietnam. Vinh - the capital city of this province with 33 wards and communes will be arranged into 6 wards, of which 5 wards have the word 'Vinh' in their names.

Accordingly, there will be wards Truong Vinh, Thanh Vinh, Vinh Hung, Vinh Phu, Vinh Loc. The remaining ward is Cua Lo.

In the photo, a panoramic view of Vinh city in early May 2025.

When mentioning Vinh city, we cannot help but mention Ben Thuy I bridge and the famous Lam river of Nghe An, which appears in many poems and songs. This is the bridge connecting Ben Thuy ward (Vinh city) with Xuan An town (Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh ). The bridge started construction in 1986 and was inaugurated in 1990.

Ben Thuy I Bridge plays an important role in connecting traffic between Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, especially National Highway 1A. The bridge is also a symbol associated with the memories of many generations of Nghe An people.

From Ha Tinh to Vinh City in the South-North direction, right after passing Ben Thuy Bridge, a construction that attracts the attention of many people is the Vinh secondary radar station, 20m high, including the operator house, power station and auxiliary works, built on a land area of 10,000m². This is one of five important radar stations in the air traffic monitoring system of Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation.

The highlight connecting the center of Vinh City is the Le Duan - Truong Thi - Tran Phu roundabout. This roundabout is decorated with the symbol of a golden lotus combined with the sun, creating the image of "Oriental Golden Lotus".

This is also an area with heavy traffic, the end point of the route from Vinh International Airport to the city center, passing through important landmarks such as Ho Chi Minh Square and many administrative agencies.

From the "Golden Lotus" roundabout, following Truong Thi Street, people will come across Ho Chi Minh Square, a national cultural and political project, located at 2 Vuong Thuc Mau Street. The square began construction in 2000 and was inaugurated on May 19, 2003, on the occasion of the 113th anniversary of Uncle Ho's birthday. The total area of the campus is 11 hectares, including more than 30 architectural and landscape items, creating a solemn and harmonious complex between nature and people.

The square is designed with 99 green grass squares, symbolizing the 99 peaks of Hong Linh mountain - the symbol of Nghe An.

Located in the center of the square is a statue of President Ho Chi Minh carved from granite, about 18m high, depicting a friendly and approachable image of Uncle Ho.

Every afternoon, the square is an ideal place for entertainment, relaxation and cool breeze for people in the surrounding area.

Located right next to the square is Goong Lake, which was formed during the French colonial period. According to information from the province, this lake was originally dug to get soil for the construction of projects such as the Truong Thi and Ben Thuy power, match and timber plants. The name "Goong" originated from the goong carts - a popular means of transporting soil and rocks at that time. Gradually, this name became a familiar part of the memories of Vinh people.

Less than 1km away is Sy Huan Lake (26ha wide) located in Vinh City Central Park. The lake once attracted the attention of the online community when a simulated version of the Turtle Tower of Hoan Kiem Lake appeared, creating an interesting highlight in the space here. The project was inaugurated in 2005 and includes a central lake, entertainment area, festival palace and service area.

Also right next to Ho Chi Minh Square is the headquarters of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, located at 3 Truong Thi Street, Truong Thi Ward - a central location, convenient for connecting with administrative agencies in the province. The headquarters building is designed in a modern style, suitable for administrative functions, creating favorable conditions for management and serving the people.

Standing out in the center of Vinh is the Military Zone IV Stadium - a sports facility closely associated with the history and activities of the armed forces of Military Zone IV. Although not as prominent in scale as other large stadiums, the facility has many special features.

Previously, the stadium was owned by Military Zone 4 Football Club, a semi-professional football team founded in 1998 and has had many remarkable achievements.

Vinh University is located at 182 Le Duan Street, Ben Thuy Ward, the route leading to the city center. This is a multidisciplinary, multi-level educational institution, with more than 40,000 students, trainees and postgraduates from 54 provinces and cities nationwide and more than 300 international students. The school trains 62 undergraduate majors, 37 master's majors and 17 doctoral majors.

During its development, Vinh University has achieved many remarkable achievements, ranked in the top 20 training institutions in Vietnam according to the CSIC rankings and achieved 4-star standards according to the UPM university quality comparison system.

When talking about the modernity of Vinh City, we cannot fail to mention Vinh Tan urban area, invested with nearly 1,500 billion VND, one of the largest projects in Vinh City, located in Vinh Tan ward and Trung Do ward. With a total area of 77.18 hectares, this is the urban area with the most synchronous technical and social infrastructure system in the city (including roads, electricity, water, schools, hospitals and other public services).

From the center of Vinh city towards Dien Chau - Bai Vot highway, people can meet VSIP Nghe An Industrial Park (about 10km from Vinh city, about 5km from Vinh international airport).

The industrial park currently attracts many domestic and foreign investors, focusing on clean industries, high technology, electronics, garment, food and logistics.

By March 2025, VSIP 1 had attracted 55 investment projects (51 investors), with a leased land area of 251.8 hectares, an occupancy rate of about 97%, and a total investment capital of VND 49,145.6 billion (equivalent to USD 2,063.6 million). Of which, 34 investment projects have come into operation, creating initial jobs for about 23,000 workers.

In July 2024, the Standing Committee of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee issued a Resolution on building and developing Vinh until 2030, with a vision to 2045 as a fast-growing, sustainable, civilized, and modern smart city. Even after the reorganization, the city changed into 6 wards, this place is still one of the important development drivers and growth poles of the North Central region.
