On October 30, the Vietnamese aviation industry marked a historic milestone when VAMT announced the complete completion of the calibration flight test at the Long Thanh Airport mega-project. This is the most stringent and mandatory flight safety inspection step, confirming that the technical systems at the airport are ready for operation.
Racing towards the "milestone" of December 19

The flight crew conducted a calibration test flight and flight evaluation of Long Thanh airport's flight procedures.
This success is of key significance, directly serving the goal set by the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Construction : to basically complete the items of phase 1, ensuring sufficient conditions for the inauguration of Long Thanh Airport on December 19.
To meet this “golden” schedule, a large-scale coordinated campaign was launched. Under the direction of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, VAMT, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and Air Traffic Management Engineering Company Limited (ATTECH) focused maximum resources on the calibration flight task.
Starting from September 26 and lasting until October 29, the Flight Calibration Center used the most modern specialized equipment, including the DGPS system (Differential Global Positioning System) and the specialized King Air B350 aircraft, to conduct a series of flights in the sky of Long Thanh. The goal is to "test" and "measure" the accuracy and reliability of all navigation and flight control systems.
Tested under the most extreme conditions
The most "stressful" phase took place during the four peak days (October 26-29). Units focused on synchronously checking the primary/secondary radar system (PSR/SSR), modern aviation surveillance technology (ADS-B) and actual operating capacity at both ends of runway No. 1 (code 05R/23L).

Notably, all flight test scenarios were carried out continuously, accurately simulating the dense operating conditions of a special international airport. This was not only a technical test, but also a full-scale "rehearsal" for the future commercial exploitation scenario.
International experts highly appreciate

The results of the calibration flight received positive reviews from international experts. Representatives of the Czech Republic Air Navigation Academy, the unit supervising the process, highly appreciated the results achieved. According to experts, the technical parameters of radar and ADS-B at Long Thanh not only met but also exceeded the strict standards of ICAO and Europe, demonstrating that Vietnam's technical capacity and professionalism are completely on par with the international level.
This success is the result of a coordinated effort to ensure absolute safety in the Ho Chi Minh Flight Information Region (FIR) - one of the busiest airspaces in the region. A series of units such as the Southern Air Traffic Management Company, the Air Traffic Flow Management Center, the Aviation Meteorological Center, the Long Thanh Project Management Board and the 370th Air Division were activated at maximum level to ensure security and emergency response scenarios.

As the final calibration flights close, the doors of Long Thanh Airport are truly open. Having passed a legal procedure to be considered for overall acceptance, Long Thanh Airport is moving quickly towards the finish line, ready to become the most modern aviation hub in the region, contributing to raising Vietnam's position on the world aviation map by 2026.
