In recent times, Can Tho City has proposed many synchronous solutions to improve income for rural people; support and mobilize help for the poor to achieve the goal of sustainable poverty reduction. For example, promoting increased production; creating conditions for access to preferential loans; vocational training for rural workers; attracting investment in agriculture, farmers, and rural areas; supporting healthcare, housing, etc.

In the model new rural commune Trung Hung, Co Do district, with the advantage of agricultural development, the commune chose the model of "Organizing production and developing rural economy". Mr. Chung Hue Duc, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: "The commune has 4 cooperatives operating effectively in the agricultural sector and linking production between farmers, suppliers of rice seeds, agricultural materials, and plant varieties; there are 68 professional association branches and production cooperatives operating in the agricultural sector such as irrigation pumping, sowing, cultivation, spraying, sewing and weaving... In addition, Trung Hung develops the Large Field, with an area of ​​516 hectares in Thanh Trung Hamlet and has 1 OCOP product rated 3 stars, Thanh Nhan fish sauce. Currently, 100% of the stages in the commune's agricultural production are mechanized, helping to reduce costs and shorten time... Thanks to the continuous efforts, the average income per capita of the commune has increased rapidly from 57.63 million VND/person (in 2021) to 80.975 million VND/person (in 2024). The rate of multidimensional poverty households has decreased sharply compared to In previous years, specifically in 2021, the rate reached 0.35%, in 2022, the rate reached 0.16%, by the end of 2023, the commune will have no more poor households.

According to the Office of Coordination for New Rural Development in Can Tho City, the results of production development in all aspects and the income of rural people in Can Tho City in recent years have been significantly improved. By the end of 2024, the average income per capita in communes meeting advanced new rural standards reached over 72 million VND/person/year, in communes meeting model new rural standards reached over 79.2 million VND/person/year. Regarding the multidimensional poverty rate of the city, it has decreased below 2.5%, specifically, by the end of 2024, the city had 350 poor households, with 1,118 people, accounting for 0.09%; 4,685 near-poor households, with 18,367 people, accounting for 1.26%; the rate of poor ethnic minority households was 0.29%, equivalent to 29 households.

Can Tho City has had encouraging results in increasing income and reducing the poverty rate in communes building new rural areas. Because in the conditions of agricultural production playing a key role, the starting point of the communes is low, maintaining and improving the quality of these two criteria must be given special attention, otherwise it will be easy to lose quality.

Based on that reality, the districts and communes that build the city's new rural areas, depending on their conditions and advantages, each locality chooses its own solutions and directions for the problem of increasing income and reducing poverty sustainably. Mr. Han Phuoc Khanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Quoi Commune, Vinh Thanh District, said: The commune focuses on converting the structure of crops and livestock to suit market demand; regularly organizes training courses to improve the scientific and technical level of farmers, especially prioritizing development in the direction of safe and clean agriculture. At the same time, increase loan capital for households that have just escaped poverty to create conditions for them to produce and do business; regularly review and propose to organize vocational training classes for people of working age, ensuring that the number of workers of working age has jobs. From there, increase the average annual income per capita according to the prescribed standards by 2025 to reach at least 76 million VND/person/year.

According to Mr. Chung Hue Duc, Trung Hung commune focuses on propaganda and mobilization work, especially in launching emulation movements, arousing, promoting and exploiting, effectively using resources, especially internal resources among the people.
