Gold price today May 9: Domestic loss of half a million, world decrease deeply

On the morning of May 9, the price of gold bars at Saigon Jewelry Company - SJC decreased by 500,000 VND compared to the end of yesterday, down to 118 million VND for buying and 120 million VND for selling. Other jewelry companies also buy and sell gold bars with SJC.

The world gold price also dropped sharply by 80 USD, down to 3,310 USD/ounce. Converted according to Vietcombank exchange rate, the world gold price is equivalent to 104.3 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Currently, each tael of SJC gold bar is 15.7 million VND more expensive than the world price.

Meanwhile, the price of 4-number 9 gold rings at SJC remains unchanged at 114 million VND for buying and 116.5 million VND for selling. Phu Nhuan Jewelry Company (PNJ) reduced the price by 200,000 VND for buying to 114 million VND and reduced the price by 600,000 VND for selling to 116.6 million VND; Doji Group bought at 114 million VND and sold at 116.5 million VND... Bao Tin Minh Chau alone is still the unit with the highest price of 4-number 9 gold rings in the market, buying at 116.5 million VND and selling at 119.5 million VND. The difference between buying and selling gold rings remains at 3 million VND/tael.

Precious metals fell sharply after US President Donald Trump announced a tariff-free trade deal with the UK, raising hopes of similar deals with other countries. It would reduce US tariffs on cars and steel imported from the UK. However, the deal is not yet finalized, with final details still to be negotiated in the coming weeks. At the close of trading on May 8 (early morning of May 9, Vietnam time), the Dow Jones index increased by 254.48 points, equivalent to an increase of 0.62% to 41,368.45 points; the S&P 500 increased by 0.58% to 5,663.94 points and the Nasdaq also added 1.07% to 17,928.14 points./.
