Complete key technical tasks before officially operating Long Thanh airport

According to the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), recently, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has urgently coordinated with the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), Air Traffic Management Engineering Company Limited (ATTECH) and Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to carry out flight inspection, calibration and assessment of flight procedures at Long Thanh airport to fully meet international standards on safety and efficiency in operation.

Key technical tasks

This is also a key technical task required before the airport officially goes into commercial operation, expected in 2026.

Accordingly, from September 26 to October 29, 2025, the Calibration Flight Center completed all calibration flight and flight method assessment flights at Long Thanh International Airport.

The second phase of test and calibration flights focused on synchronously testing the capacity of modern surveillance systems and equipment, PSR/SSR radar and ADS-B installed at Long Thanh airport as well as flights to evaluate the capacity and monitoring capabilities of the systems on both ends of runway 1 (05R/23L) which have been completed.

In addition, flight control coordination plans between key units such as the Southern Air Traffic Management Company, Air Traffic Flow Management Center, Aviation Information Information Center, Aviation Meteorology Center, Long Thanh Project Management Board, and Air Division 370 are ensured to comply with the signed contract minutes before the flight.

The second phase of test and calibration flights focused on synchronously testing the capacity of modern surveillance systems and equipment, PSR/SSR radar and ADS-B installed at Long Thanh airport.

Equipment, personnel, flight operations plans, and emergency response plans are carried out with absolute safety in airspace with high flight density as well as strict requirements on separation, time and frequency of continuous operations in the Ho Chi Minh City FIR.

"The completion of the flight inspection and technical calibration work at Long Thanh has been highly appreciated by competent authorities and international experts, demonstrating the political determination, proactive spirit, responsibility and professionalism of the relevant parties. This is also a strategic premise, the "final test" to help open the threshold for commercial operation of Long Thanh International Airport," the VATM representative affirmed.
