Vietnamese political and historical researcher and member of the Communist Party of Great Britain, Mr. Kyril Whittaker, commented that under the leadership of the Communist Party, Vietnam today has become a developed political, economic and cultural center.
In an interview with a VNA reporter in the UK on the occasion of the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam , Mr. Whittaker pointed out that over nearly a century since its founding in Hong Kong in 1930, the Communist Party of Vietnam has led the country to victory in the resistance war against French colonialism and American imperialism, liberating and unifying the country and building Vietnam into a prosperous nation.
Citing President Ho Chi Minh 's view on democracy, meaning that the people are the masters and the people are the masters, researcher Anh emphasized that with this consistent view, all decisions of the Party are based on the people, pointing out that Vietnamese society today is not only a product of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh's thought but is also imbued with socialist culture, imbued with progressive values, love of peace, independence, freedom and the values that Uncle Ho often mentioned such as integrity, thrift, anti-waste, corruption, selfishness.
According to Mr. Kyril, improving people's quality of life and promoting cultural development have created the foundation for today's Vietnamese society, recognized by the world for its rich culture, history of development and economic growth.
Over the past 94 years, with the ideology of the people, by the people and for the people, the Communist Party of Vietnam has continued to build socialism and overcome many challenges, being the driving force for healthy development in all areas of Vietnamese society, especially in developing and preserving culture.
Through many policies such as poverty reduction, infrastructure construction, and preservation of ethnic minority cultures, the Vietnamese Party and people are nurturing the continuous development of national culture.
Mr. Kyril commented that under the Party's leadership, in 2023, Vietnam achieved great diplomatic, economic and cultural achievements, with the economy growing continuously, from 2.58% in 2021 to 8.02% in 2022, and 5.05% in 2023.
While other economies around the world have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam has effectively controlled the pandemic and at the same time maintained economic growth.
Mr. Kyril said that these achievements are thanks to Vietnam always "putting people first", citing that during the pandemic, people always had a spirit of mutual support, and at the same time received support from the army and the people's police with practical actions during the lockdown period, from buying food, harvesting crops, to measuring temperature, and giving free masks to people.
The government will also severely punish those who take advantage of the pandemic to make profits, such as raising prices of essential products, and those who spread dangerous misinformation about the pandemic. He said there are many things the world can learn from Vietnam in its fight against the pandemic.
During his time living in Vietnam, Mr. Kyril saw great changes in the country's rural and urban areas, with people's lives improving day by day.
He said that sustainable agricultural development, new highway and transport systems, as well as the large-scale use of green technology have become the norm in Vietnam, such as the development of a green bus network, increased use of public transport, and the development of pedestrian streets in crowded areas in major cities to create public spaces in areas with historical and architectural beauty such as Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi or Nguyen Hue Street in Ho Chi Minh City.
The British researcher pointed out that these reflect what General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong recently emphasized, which is rapid but sustainable development, with continued economic development, but a Green, circular economy associated with enhanced resource management and environmental protection.
Assessing Vietnam's foreign affairs achievements, Mr. Kyril said that foreign relations developed significantly in 2023, highlighted by the visit to Vietnam by General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden.
Vietnam has strengthened friendly relations with traditional friends while constantly developing international relations and trade, expanding and deepening relations with 193 countries.
Vietnam also plays an active role in international organizations such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Non-Aligned Movement, the United Nations and the Mekong River Commission.
Mr. Kyril emphasized that through these forums, Vietnam has applied the “Bamboo Diplomacy” school to expand relations, establish new partnerships while maintaining security, independence, freedom, promoting peace, being an active member in discussions to build a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC), supporting the independence and freedom of people around the world.
According to Mr. Kyril, the bamboo diplomacy of “firm roots, strong trunk, flexible branches” was developed based on Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh thought, not only demonstrating the key policy of maintaining the independence and freedom of the Vietnamese State but also demonstrating the connection with the people, “taking the people as the root”.
He stressed that Vietnam's policies, whether foreign or national, are developed to improve people's living conditions, develop the country and promote peace with other nations.
Referring to Vietnam's fight against corruption under the Party's leadership, Mr. Kyril said that Vietnam also dealt with corruption strongly, with many party members being disciplined, expelled from the Party, removed from office and facing the consequences of their actions.
Mr. Kyril affirmed that Vietnam is doing a very good job in its anti-corruption campaign, inspiring countries, parties and peoples around the world.
