Students in Ho Chi Minh City will return to school from August 20.

On the afternoon of August 12, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City submitted to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City the time frame for the 2025-2026 school year, which specifically stipulates the school return schedule for students from preschool to high school.

Students in grades 1, 9, and 12 will return to school 2 weeks before the opening day.

Specifically, primary, secondary and high school students in Ho Chi Minh City will return to school on August 25.

Schools will simultaneously start the new school year on September 5 and ensure 18 weeks of actual study in semester 1, and 17 weeks of actual study in semester 2. Schools will end the school year before May 31.

According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, in the 2025-2026 school year, the city will have 2,528,789 students, an increase of 39,632 students compared to the previous school year. Of which, preschool has 478,458 students, primary school has 939,002 students, secondary school has 759,278 students, high school has 352,051 students.

In the new school year, the city is expected to put into use 1,287 new classrooms from the budget, including 151 for preschool, 585 for primary, 412 for secondary and 112 for high school. In addition, it is expected that there will be about 200 preschool classrooms and 190 general classrooms invested from socialized capital.

In the new school year, the city will continue to ensure that 100% of children living in the area have enough places to study, and ensure the conditions of facilities and equipment to organize activities at educational institutions according to the requirements of the general education program.
