Students absolutely do not use food given or donated of unknown origin.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training requested units to strengthen the dissemination of information to schools to students not to use products distributed or donated of unknown origin; closely coordinate with authorities to manage areas around school gates and in the locality; strengthen management and direction to ensure food hygiene and safety and safety in schools.

Previously, more than 10 students at Binh Minh Secondary School, Thanh Oai District, had to be hospitalized with stomachaches and nausea after drinking bottled water distributed for free near the school gate.

Specifically, at around 1:20 p.m. on September 30, at the gate of Binh Minh Secondary School, a group of strangers distributed free Boncha honey tea with peach oolong flavor to students, of which 263 students drank Boncha honey tea with peach oolong flavor.

At 2:36 p.m. the same day, student NHH (grade 6) had symptoms of abdominal pain in the navel area and nausea. The school took her to the Commune Health Station, then transferred her to Thanh Oai General Hospital.

By 10 p.m. the same day, Thanh Oai General Hospital received 12 patients with the same symptoms; headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting from Binh Minh Secondary School. The patients were diagnosed with food poisoning.

On the morning of October 1, 13 students were in stable health and expected to be discharged at 5:00 p.m. on October 1, 2024. No new patients were detected.

Currently, the functional units of Thanh Oai district are urgently clarifying the incident. Samples of the above mentioned drinking water products have been sent for testing at the National Institute for Food Safety Testing.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Oai district, the unit has informed schools in the area to increase coordination with parents,educate children not to eat snacks outside the school gate and absolutely not to accept food and drinks from strangers.

Regarding this incident, the Food Safety Department requests that localities, schools, and medical facilities continue to monitor and supervise the health of students, detect new patients, and report according to regulations.

In addition, units should step up propaganda to the community and parents about the knowledge of using products of unknown origin. When children show signs of suspected use of unsafe food, they should immediately go to a medical facility for examination.

Previously, the Hanoi People's Committee issued Plan No. 210/KH-UBND dated July 11, 2024 on the topic "Strengthening food safety control in and around school gates in Hanoi".

The plan aims to promote propaganda, education, raise awareness, identify responsibilities and actions of Party committees at all levels, authorities, educational institutions, businesses and individuals in ensuring food security and safety (FS) in and around school gates.

Along with that, promote food safety management, proactively prevent food poisoning and food-borne diseases for students in educational institutions in Hanoi.
