Vietnamese students win 6 gold medals at International Math Olympiad

All 6 Vietnamese students competing in the Turkmenistan Mathematical Olympiad won gold medals.

On the morning of April 26, information from the Ministry of Education and Training said that from April 21-26, in Turkmenistan, a Vietnamese student delegation of 6 students participated in the 2nd Turkmenistan Mathematical Olympiad. As a result, all 6 students won gold medals.

To participate in this competition, the Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology established a delegation of students to participate in the competition, including two teachers and six students. These are students ranked from 7th to 12th in the Olympic team selection exam. These students were not in the official lineup for the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad held in Australia. The delegation was established in the form of socialization.

All 6 students participating in the exam won Gold Medals. They are: Nguyen Tri Hau, grade 11, Nguyen Binh Khiem High School for the Gifted, Quang Nam province; Nguyen Tri Hien, grade 11, Nguyen Binh Khiem High School for the Gifted, Quang Nam province; Nguyen Phuc Nguyen, grade 11, Newton Middle School - High School, Hanoi ; Tran Quang Nhat, grade 12, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Da Nang city; Lai Gia Khai, grade 11, High School for the Gifted, Hanoi National University of Education; Vu Viet Ha, grade 12, Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted, Hai Duong province.

Among the 6 students who won the Gold Medal of the competition, Nguyen Phuc Nguyen was the only representative of Hanoi to compete and excellently won 40 points. Student Nguyen Phuc Nguyen won second prize in the national math competition for excellent students in the 2024-2025 school year. With a score in the top 40 nationwide, Nguyen Phuc Nguyen was selected to participate in the international Olympic team selection exam organized by the Ministry of Education and Training. In this competition, Nguyen scored in the top 12 best students and was selected to participate in the 2nd Turkmenistan Mathematical Exchange Olympiad.

The Turkmenistan Mathematical Olympiad is an international event organized by invitation, hosted by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. The competition aims to nurture students' talents and abilities, strengthen friendship, develop progressive thinking and open-mindedness among young people.

The exam consists of 5 problems, each worth 10 points, to be completed in 5 hours. According to the regulations of the Organizing Committee, prizes will be awarded to 50% of the participants. In addition, students who achieve the maximum score on a problem will receive a certificate of merit from the Organizing Committee.
