Vietnam Red Cross makes its mark in the patriotic emulation movement

On November 18, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society held a press conference to inform about the 6th National Patriotic Emulation Congress and the results of 5 years of implementing the emulation movement in the whole Society.

The 6th National Patriotic Emulation Congress of the Vietnam Red Cross Society will take place on November 22-23, 2025 in Hanoi. This is a very special event, aiming to summarize and comprehensively evaluate the patriotic emulation movement and emulation and reward work in the period of 2020 - 2025; honor outstanding collectives and individuals; and at the same time, propose directions, tasks and solutions for the emulation movement in the period of 2025 - 2030. The Congress takes place on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the founding of the Society (1946 - 2025).

Regarding the preparations for the Congress, Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh - Vice President, General Secretary, Executive Director of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said that the Central Committee has directed 34 provincial and municipal Red Cross Associations to organize the Conference of advanced models at all levels solemnly, practically, in accordance with regulations and with great influence. Thereby, thousands of outstanding cadres, members and volunteers were honored and introduced to the Congress - worthy representatives of the spirit of "Emulation is patriotism - Humanity is the source of love".

“Up to now, the professional, logistical, propaganda and organization contents of the Congress have been deployed urgently, methodically and thoughtfully. The Congress will take place over two days with the participation of 400 delegates, including 270 typical advanced delegates nationwide. The program is designed to be solemn, modern, rich in humanity, demonstrating the stature of the Vietnam Red Cross Society in the political system and in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement,” said Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh.

Also at the press meeting, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society provided an overview of the results of the patriotic emulation movement in the 2020-2025 period; valuable lessons learned; and major orientations for the emulation movement in the 2025-2030 period.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh, The patriotic emulation movement for the period 2020 - 2025 has recorded many outstanding results, marking a period when the Association's humanitarian movement has spread strongly and persistently throughout society. Over the past 5 years, the Association at all levels has mobilized and assisted more than 102 million people, with a total mobilized resource of over 29,186 billion VND. Compared to the previous term, this figure increased by 45%, affirming the Association's role in implementing social security goals, caring for the disadvantaged, and supporting sustainable poverty reduction in the country.

Over the past five years, the Association's disaster prevention and response work has made great strides.

In the fields of humanitarian social work , health care, resource mobilization and international cooperation, the Association continues to make its mark with bright spots. In particular, in the context of Vietnam being heavily affected by climate change, natural disasters, storms and floods, the Association's disaster prevention and response work has made strong progress, with a total support value of up to 2,147 billion VND, assisting 5.6 million people, 2.45 times higher than the previous period. Many practical interventions have been promoted such as cash support, livelihoods, clean water, safe housing, safe schools, warning and early action systems.

The major movements and campaigns once again demonstrate the core role of the Association in humanitarian work. These include the success of the “Humanitarian Tet” Movement; the “Each organization and individual is associated with a humanitarian address” Campaign; “Humanitarian Month”, the Voluntary Blood Donation and Organ and Tissue Donation Movement… Along with that, many key programs and special campaigns have left a deep impression on society.

Internationally, the Association has implemented many programs to assist people affected by natural disasters, catastrophes, epidemics, and difficulties in Laos, Cambodia, Cuba, India, China, Myanmar, Turkey, Syria, the United States, Ukraine, Palestine, etc., with a total value of nearly 730 billion VND along with 100 ventilators and 600,000 masks.

In the emulation and commendation work, the Association has been recognized by the Party, the State, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and all levels and sectors. The President has awarded the First, Second and Third Class Labor Medals to 7 collectives and 14 individuals of the Association at all levels; the Friendship Medal to 2 collectives and 1 individual in the International Red Cross - Red Crescent Movement. The Prime Minister has awarded many Emulation Flags and Certificates of Merit to collectives and individuals of the Association.

Orientation of patriotic emulation movement for the period 2025 - 2030 is associated with the goal of "leaving no one behind".

Regarding the orientation of the patriotic emulation movement for the period 2025 - 2030, Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh emphasized: The Vietnam Red Cross Society has determined the goal of continuing to strongly innovate the patriotic emulation movement, associated with the implementation of the Resolution of the 11th and 12th National Red Cross Congresses and the Society's Development Strategy to 2030, vision 2045. At the same time, focusing on deepening the Society's major campaigns; promoting disaster prevention and response, community health care, blood donation and organ donation; strengthening resource mobilization, international cooperation and social humanitarian programs associated with the goal of "leaving no one behind".

To achieve those goals, the Vietnam Red Cross Society focuses on promoting propaganda and dissemination of Ho Chi Minh's thoughts on patriotic emulation and the Party and State's policies and guidelines on emulation and rewards; strengthening leadership and direction so that the spirit of patriotic emulation becomes a regular awareness and responsibility of each cadre, member and volunteer; innovating the content and form of organizing the movement in a practical direction, focusing on the grassroots, associated with building a strong Association organization.

Along with that, the Association will continue to improve the Emulation and Reward Councils at all levels, improve the capacity of staff; promote the application of information technology, build electronic databases in emulation and reward management; closely coordinate with press and media agencies to promptly discover, honor and replicate advanced examples, good models, and creative ways in the patriotic emulation movement.
