Hai Lang District Veterans Association: Solidarity, leading in implementing emulation movements

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day on April 30 (1975 - 2024), the Hai Lang District Veterans Association coordinated with Bui Duc Tai High School; the Veterans Association and the Hai Son Commune Youth Union to organize the program "Traditional education for the young generation". This is a regular and continuous activity of the District Veterans Association in recent times at many schools in the area.

At the program, students heard stories about the birth and tradition of the Vietnam People's Army, fierce battles, heroic sacrifices of martyrs for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland and real-life stories of revolutionary soldiers who were steadfast and brave even when imprisoned and brutally tortured in prison, still loyal to the Party, persistently fighting for the independence and freedom of the nation.

As those who directly fought, devoted their youth and blood to the independence and freedom of the nation, with their knowledge, experience and practical experiences, the war veterans shared and talked to help the younger generation better understand the history of struggle, the heroic revolutionary tradition of generations of Vietnamese people in the struggle to build and protect the Fatherland both in war and peacetime. During the meetings, the war veterans also informed about domestic and international current affairs; integrated propaganda on the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State and the socio-economic achievements of the country and the province.

Along with taking care of traditional education for the younger generation, the cadres and members of the Veterans Association always set an example by encouraging their families and relatives to properly implement the policies, laws of the Party, the State, and local regulations in all fields. Participate in inspection and supervision delegations for site clearance of the Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone, Quang Tri Industrial Park and key projects implemented in the area.

At the same time, directing the association bases to sign a commitment to the model of "Families of war veterans do not violate the law, social evils, do not participate in complaints beyond the level" with over 2,665 war veterans' families signing, reaching 86.8%. In particular, on each annual military recruitment occasion, the association at all levels has coordinated to do a good job of propagating the Law on Military Service; encouraging young people to go to fulfill the sacred duty of protecting the Fatherland.

Accompanying the youth in building a strong union organization; many members are war veteran association heads, party cell secretaries, village heads, and neighborhood group leaders who directly participate in successfully educating and transforming many slow-progressing youth; at the same time, nurturing and introducing many outstanding union members for the Party to consider admitting.

Chairman of the Hai Lang District Veterans Association Nguyen Van Chung said: “The Hai Lang District Veterans Association currently has more than 3,000 members, operating in 16 grassroots organizations. The association focuses on patriotic emulation movements, and plans are developed to launch the movement widely to each cadre and member.

In close adherence to assigned tasks, grassroots associations have always proactively propagated and mobilized cadres and members of the Veterans Association to actively carry out the emulation movement "Exemplary Veterans" associated with studying and following the ideology, morality and lifestyle of Ho Chi Minh; the movement "War veterans join hands to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas"; "War veterans participate in economic development, help each other eliminate hunger and reduce poverty"; the movement of the whole people to protect national security, prevent crimes and social evils".

The highlight of the emulation movements is that the War Veterans Associations at all levels in Hai Lang district have promoted the potential and strengths of each locality, helping each other reduce poverty and develop family economy. Along with coordinating with functional agencies to open training courses to transfer science and technology, organizing visits to economic models for members, the War Veterans Associations at all levels in the district also create conditions for War Veterans to borrow capital to develop production and business.

In 2024 alone, the association mobilized, advised, and supported war veteran members to borrow more than 28 billion VND from the district's Social Policy Bank to invest in production and business development, clean water projects, environmental sanitation, etc.

In addition, the association at all levels also mobilized to build an association fund, helping each other develop the economy with a fund of over 3.4 billion VND. Up to now, the whole district has 10 enterprises owned by members of the Association of War Veterans, attracting over 100 workers. In addition, the War Veterans also participate in production and business at 15 cooperatives, 26 farms, 172 family farms and 229 business households.

From the achieved results, in the coming time, the War Veterans Association at all levels in the district will continue to build an increasingly strong organization. Determined to excellently complete the tasks according to the resolutions of the Party Committees at all levels; resolutions, plans, and work programs for 2025 set forth by the Association at all levels.

At the same time, constantly innovate the content and methods of operation of the association, well perform the top important political task of actively participating in building and protecting the Party, the government, protecting the socialist regime and protecting the people; promote the role of solidarity, gathering generations of war veterans, former soldiers and mobilizing people to actively participate in economic, cultural and social development, ensuring national defense and security.
