In particular, he was the first Vietnamese to bring photography to Vietnam, by importing photographic equipment from Guangdong province (China) to Vietnam on March 14, 1869, after a diplomatic trip to China.
In Hanoi , Dang Huy Tru opened the Cam Hieu Duong photo studio on Thanh Ha street, both organizing photography and teaching photography to Vietnamese people. He is considered the founder of Vietnamese photography, the "father" of Vietnamese photography. His name has been given to a number of streets and schools in Hue city and some other localities.
