Speaking at the opening of the workshop, the leader of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ninh Binh informed: With its deep historical and cultural traditions, Ninh Binh has left behind a rich and diverse system of cultural heritage, including a system of documentary heritage. This is the original source of historical data reflecting the history of the country, society, and people of Ninh Binh in each historical period, and is the community memory created and preserved through many generations. Ninh Binh is one of the few localities that still has a system of Han Nom steles with a continuous history lasting nearly 1,000 years.
According to investigation and survey data, Ninh Binh currently has thousands of Han-Nom steles still existing, preserved in historical and cultural relics and scenic spots (in temples, pagodas, shrines, palaces, cliffs, caves). The oldest known steles are Buddhist pillars erected by King Dinh Lien of Nam Viet in 973, discovered near the bank of Hoang Long River in the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital National Special Relic Site.
Among the remaining steles in the province, many have unique historical and cultural values, such as the Buddhist pillar of Nhat Tru pagoda, the collection of Buddhist pillars of Dinh dynasty, the system of steles at the Temple of King Dinh Tien Hoang, the Temple of King Le Dai Hanh (Hoa Lu Ancient Capital Special National Relic Site), the stele of Phong Phu pagoda and cave (Ninh Giang, Hoa Lu)... In particular, the Buddhist pillar of Nhat Tru pagoda, the collection of Buddhist pillars of Dinh dynasty at Ninh Binh Museum have been recognized as National Treasures by the Prime Minister.
The system of inscriptions on the cliffs of Non Nuoc Mountain (Hoa Lu City) is of special importance. Non Nuoc Mountain Relic is not only famous for its historical, cultural and landscape values that have been ranked by the Prime Minister as a special national historical and scenic relic, but is also a treasure trove of unique documentary heritage. The system of Han Nom inscriptions on the cliffs here has many historical, cultural, religious, spiritual and literary and artistic meanings, not only reflecting the presence and development of Han Nom inscriptions in the ancient capital but also vividly demonstrating the process of cultural exchange, ideology and beliefs of the feudal dynasties of Vietnam over the centuries.
In his report to the workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Cuong, Director of the Institute of Han Nom Studies (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences), stated: In the continuous flow of history and national culture, identifying, preserving and promoting the heritage values left by our ancestors is always one of the important tasks, demonstrating the responsibility of today's generation towards the past and the future. In particular, documentary heritage, as material evidence recording the memory, knowledge and history of a community, a nation or of all humanity, is increasingly receiving deep attention from the international community.
It is on this historical and geographical foundation that Duc Thuy Son has become a sacred space, a destination for kings, literati and scholars over the centuries, and more importantly, a place that preserves a priceless system of Han Nom inscriptions, known as "the only unique Vietnamese literature museum on stone in Vietnam".
Realizing the importance and great values, the organization of the International Scientific Conference "Han Nom Inscriptions of Non Nuoc Mountain - Potential of Documentary Heritage" is a meaningful effort. This is the result of close and dedicated cooperation between the People's Committee of Ninh Binh Province, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ninh Binh, the Institute of Han Nom Studies (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) together contributing their intellectual resources and experience to an important academic forum, aiming at preserving and promoting a precious cultural heritage of the country.
At the Workshop, the opinions focused on comprehensive and in-depth research and assessment, clarifying important issues, namely: counting, identifying, evaluating the historical, cultural, heritage and scientific values of the Han Nom inscription system in the context of the complex of historical relics and special national landscapes of Non Nuoc mountain; issues related to the work of preserving, restoring, promoting and exploiting the historical-cultural and socio-economic values of the Non Nuoc inscription heritage in the context of current heritage economic development; domestic and international experiences and models in managing and exploiting documentary heritage in accordance with the goals of local socio-economic development; consulting international and Vietnamese experts on the possibility of building a dossier "Han Nom inscriptions of Non Nuoc mountain, Van Giang ward, Hoa Lu city, Ninh Binh province" to propose UNESCO to include in the List of Documentary Heritage under the Memory of the World Program in the Asia-Pacific region.
The reports have rich, vivid content, high scientific content, meeting the general objectives and requirements of the Workshop, systematically and scientifically identifying and evaluating the value of documentary heritage at the historical relic and special national scenic spot of Non Nuoc Mountain, focusing on the Han Nom inscription system; consulting international experts on building the dossier "Han Nom inscription of Non Nuoc Mountain, Ninh Binh Province" to propose to be listed in the List of Documentary Heritage under the Memory of the World Program in the Asia - Pacific region.
After the workshop, Ninh Binh province will promote propaganda, promotion, education, raise awareness of preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage. Thereby, arousing the tradition of patriotism, national pride, love for the homeland and country, promoting the spirit of great national unity, striving to compete to build and develop the beautiful homeland of Ninh Binh, contributing to the overall development of the whole country.
At the same time, through the results of the Workshop and the research results of experts and scientists, it is recommended that units and individuals receive and complete the Nomination Dossier of the Han-Nom Inscriptions of Non Nuoc Mountain to the List of World Documentary Heritage under the UNESCO Memory of the World Program in the Asia-Pacific region, ensuring accuracy, comprehensiveness, science, and meeting the requirements.
