More than 200 billion VND to dredge Cai Mep-Thi Vai waterway

The Maritime and Waterway Project Management Board said that the additional bidding package for dredging and handling dredged material under the Cai Mep-Thi Vai channel upgrade project is in the final preparation stage, expected to start construction in mid-June 2025. The bidding package has a total investment of more than 200 billion VND, using surplus capital from the main project. The construction period is 159 days, to be completed in 2025.

According to the Project Management Board leader, the contractor has mobilized equipment and vehicles and implemented a plan to ensure maritime safety, while also measuring and receiving the construction site.

The scope of the contract includes dredging and widening both sides of the main channel, each side is 170m wide, creating conditions for ships up to 50,000 DWT to safely navigate without having to enter the main channel. In addition, the project also dredging sections from Ganh Rai buoy to Saigon-Vung Tau channel and from Phuoc An port to Vedan Phuoc Thai port, to accommodate ships with a capacity of 30,000 to 50,000 DWT.

The total volume of dredging is estimated at 1.8 million m³. Dredged material will be disposed of by dumping at sea in accordance with regulations.
