More than 220 baseball players participate in the 2023 National Baseball Club Cup

The tournament is part of the national baseball tournament system, a prestigious and prestigious baseball competition event organized annually by the Vietnam Baseball and Softball Federation with the desire to promote, encourage, and expand the scale of development of the movement of training and competing in formal, systematic, and scientific baseball. Thereby, finding talents, creating resources for youth teams and national baseball teams to participate in international tournaments.

Mr. Tran Duc Phan, President of the Vietnam Baseball and Softball Federation, affirmed that this year's tournament will emphasize professional quality.

This year, the tournament will take place at My Dinh National Sports Complex from July 26 to 30. The scale of the tournament has also been significantly expanded with 11 participating teams, including 2 teams from Ho Chi Minh City, 2 teams from Da Nang and 7 teams from Hanoi. The number of registered players is up to more than 220 athletes.

The tournament also received a lot of support for the development of Baseball from organizations and individuals from Korea and Japan. The referee team participating in the tournament are referees from Korea and the Japan - Vietnam Baseball Association.

Regarding the competition format, the Tournament applies a double elimination format. Each match of the Tournament has a maximum of 7 innings or 150 minutes; after 110 minutes, there will be no new innings. If after 7 innings or 150 minutes, the match is tied, extra innings will be played. The Tournament will also apply the Tie-break Rule from the Baseball Rules of the WBSC ( World Baseball and Softball Federation). The Mercy Rule will also be applied from the 4th inning if the gap is 10 points or more (applied to the away team's attack).

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Tran Duc Phan, Chairman of the Vietnam Baseball and Softball Federation, said that Baseball is a sport that has been included in the Olympic program since the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. Baseball is a popular sport in the world, especially in the Americas and East Asia. In Asia, there are two baseball powerhouses: Japan and Korea. Of which, Korea is the country that has supported Vietnam a lot in developing Baseball. In the Southeast Asian region, the Philippines and Indonesia are the two countries that are focusing on developing this sport.

According to Mr. Tran Duc Phan, Baseball is still a relatively new sport in Vietnam. However, the Vietnam Baseball and Softball Federation is making efforts to gradually develop this sport in our country in response to the affection and expectations of fans. “Baseball is considered a sport that trains the physical and mental well, requiring speed, endurance and the ability to calculate tactics. In addition, this is also a safe sport if the regulations are strictly followed. Through this tournament, the Organizing Committee hopes to achieve the goal of promoting and encouraging the movement of practicing and competing in Baseball nationwide,” Mr. Tran Duc Phan shared.

Previously, in July 2022, the Vietnam Baseball and Softball Federation organized the 2022 National Baseball Club Cup for the first time in Ho Chi Minh City, with the participation of 8 teams and 168 players. The tournament has left a strong impression on baseball enthusiasts and lovers. Among them, there are many foreign players studying and working in Vietnam. In February 2023, the Vietnam Baseball and Softball Federation also sent the national baseball team to participate in the Indo China Cup DGB "Dream League" Baseball Tournament in Laos and left a good impression. This is the first time since the 2011 SEA Games in Indonesia that the Vietnamese baseball team has been re-established and participated in an international tournament.
