“The past 45 hours have been really stressful. My child couldn’t eat or sleep, and was always on the verge of crying,” said Ms. Nga, NTTL’s mother.
L.'s high school graduation exam score for the D01 group (math, literature, English) was 25.25. However, thanks to her IELTS certificate of 7.0, the female student was given a score of 10 in English at many schools... L.'s converted score is 27.25.
With this score, L. failed her first, second, third, and fourth wishes to enter the University of Foreign Languages, Hanoi Pedagogical University, and University of Education . The female student had enough points for the remaining 14 wishes.
However, L. did not receive any text messages or email notifications from the schools. The schools did not post a list of successful candidates and the general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training was inaccessible.
When looking up the system of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, L. received the message: "You are not on the admission list of the schools that have authorized Hanoi University of Science and Technology to announce the admission results."

At first, L. thought that the Polytechnic system had an error, or that the school that L. registered for did not authorize the Polytechnic University. But L.'s friends said that they had successfully looked up and had the admission results to Hanoi Law University and Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 - both of which were the schools that L. had applied for.
L. collapsed, not understanding why he failed.
Ms. Nga said that her family had called “hundreds” of hotlines of Pedagogy 2, Law, and Foreign Trade schools to find out why her child was not declared a passer despite having many more points than the standard score. However, all hotlines were either unreachable or unanswered.
It was not until 1:47 p.m. on August 24 that all emotions were released when Ms. Nga accidentally went to the website of the University of Education, entered her child's ID number and the word "Passed" appeared with an admission score of 28.69.
Immediately after that, she received information from Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 explaining that her child had passed NV4 to enter the Literature Pedagogy of the University of Education, so he was no longer on the admission list of this school.
L. burst into tears of joy when he passed the entrance exam to the school he thought he had failed.

“Up to now, my family still does not know why my child's score was converted to 28.69, and does not know how my child passed. My child has not received a written notice of admission from the school and has not been confirmed for enrollment on the website of the Ministry of Education and Training,” Ms. Nga shared.
The situation of candidates not knowing whether they passed or failed because they did not know their converted score was common in this year's admission season, an unprecedented event.
Nguyen Manh An (Phu Tho) had a high school graduation exam score of 25 points in block C00, and applied for the Human Resource Management major at the Academy of Public Administration and Management. The standard score for this major is 24.2 points. However, 2 days later, An still did not receive an admission notice from the school.
When he contacted the school, An found out that he was nearly 2 points short because the C00 combination was 2 points higher than the original combination. This information was in the appendix, so An and many other candidates did not pay attention to it.
Representatives of many universities said that in the past two days, the school's hotline system has been overloaded with calls from candidates and parents asking about passing, failing, and converted scores.
“Some candidates did not read the score conversion information carefully. When announcing the benchmark scores, the school did not mention the conversion method, leading to candidates thinking they passed but in fact did not.
From the perspective of the candidates, we sympathize with them and their families because this year's admission process is indeed causing difficulties in looking up their results. This is the first year of admission using the new method, so the school is also facing certain difficulties," a representative of a university shared.
In 2025, university admission regulations will change. The Ministry of Education and Training will eliminate early admission, leaving only one admission round for all admission methods.
Due to changes in the number of high school graduation exam subjects, the number of university admission combinations also changed, increasing to a record 344 combinations.
Candidates do not have to register for admission combinations or admission methods. The Ministry's admission system will automatically combine combinations or choose admission methods to maximize the admission score for candidates.
Universities must convert the admission scores of all methods to the equivalent, then take them from high to low until the quota is full. They cannot divide the quota separately for each method.
All of the above factors create disturbances in admission scores and benchmark scores. The system has difficulty filtering out fake scores and determining benchmark scores. Candidates have difficulty calculating their admission scores.
As a result, two days after the benchmark scores were announced, candidates could not determine their admission scores, leading to not knowing whether they passed or failed. Many schools did not have their own lookup systems, hotlines were overloaded, and the Ministry's system had not updated the status for candidates to confirm their admission.
