The Vietnamese women's team has ended its journey in the second qualifying round of the 2024 Paris Olympics. After 3 matches, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team won 1, lost 2, ranked third overall, and could not get a ticket to the next round.
This is also the last tournament for coach Mai Duc Chung and the Vietnamese women's team, according to his current contract with VFF (lasting until the end of 2023).
Currently, VFF and coach Mai Duc Chung are still implementing the terms stated in the contract signed by both parties. Mr. Mai Duc Chung is still the head coach of the Vietnam women's team.
Coach Mai Duc Chung completes his mission with the Vietnam women's team in 2023
On the afternoon of November 4, the Vietnamese women's team will arrive in Hanoi after a return flight from Tashkent (Uzbekistan). After that, according to the plan, Coach Mai Duc Chung will work with the VFF to review the results of the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifying round as well as the next plan for women's football.
However, it is almost certain that coach Mai Duc Chung will leave the Vietnam women's team. He will express his wishes to the VFF and calculate the next steps such as finding a successor and transferring the force.
Although he may not be with the women's team next year (2024), coach Mai Duc Chung will still have an advisory role, supporting his predecessor thanks to his extensive experience on the coaching bench and understanding of Vietnamese women's football.
Coach Mai Duc Chung and the Vietnamese women's team have created a successful cycle in Southeast Asia with 6 SEA Games gold medals, respectively in 2003, 2005, 2017, 2019, 2022, 2023, 1 AFF Cup 2019 championship, 1 fourth place in ASIAD (in 2014), besides the pinnacle of being a ticket to the 2023 World Cup.
