Hung Yen reduces two subjects for 10th grade exams

Next year, Hung Yen's 10th grade entrance exam will only include Math, Literature, and English, and will not include Natural Sciences and Social Sciences.

According to the plan announced by the People's Committee of Hung Yen province on November 1, the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year is expected to take place in June. Candidates applying to Hung Yen Specialized High School will take an additional specialized subject exam.

The time for the Math, Literature, and English exams is 90, 120, and 60 minutes, respectively. Math and English are multiple-choice, while Literature is an essay. The exam content is within the secondary school curriculum, mainly grade 9.

Thus, compared to the present, the number of 10th grade exam subjects in Hung Yen has decreased by two. The 10th grade entrance exam in 2023 of this province will take place with three exams: Math, Literature and Combination. The combination exam includes three subjects: English, Natural Science (randomly choosing one of the three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Social Science (randomly choosing one of the three subjects: History, Geography, CivicEducation ).

Before reducing the number of subjects, along with Ninh Binh and Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen was the locality that organized the 10th grade entrance exam with the most subjects in the country.

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, public grade 10 enrollment is assigned to localities. The Department of Education and Training is the advisory body, submitting to the People's Committee of the province or city for approval of the number of subjects, form of examination or admission.

Every year, provinces and cities often organize a "two-in-one" exam, which means using 2-3 common subjects (Math, Literature and English) to enroll 10th graders in non-specialized public high schools. Candidates who take the specialized school exam only have to take an additional exam in the corresponding specialized subject.

This year, most localities will test three subjects: Math, Literature, English, some provinces such as Vinh Phuc, Ninh Binh, Hung Yen will use a combination test, including English and some other subjects. A few provinces such as Dong Thap, Gia Lai, Lam Dong will consider the school records.

In the 2023-2024 school year plan, the Ministry requires localities to consider recognizing junior high school graduation for students before June 30 and complete primary school enrollment before July 31.
