Towards World Population Day July 11

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnam has chosen the theme “Reproductive autonomy in a changing world” for World Population Day (July 11). This theme emphasizes the importance of empowering individuals, especially women and young people, to make their own reproductive decisions in the context of increasing global challenges.

Accordingly, the province will organize communication activities on this topic in response to World Population Day (July 11). Together with communication activities, policy dialogues and events at all levels, it will contribute to raising public awareness of national priorities in the field of population and development, to promote reproductive rights and honor people in all development policies.

Millions of people around the world are unable to have the number of children they want – whether they want more, fewer or none at all, according to UNFPA. Falling birth rates have been a focus of the media recently, with women often blamed for demographic changes.

Young people express anxiety and uncertainty about the future. Many believe they will face more hardship than their parents. Growing concerns about climate change, economic instability and global conflict are having a direct impact on their choices about family formation.

Disseminate population policy to the people

Solutions that do not center reproductive autonomy have been repeatedly shown to be ineffective. Our goal is not to regulate birth rates, but to give individuals the information and means to decide freely and responsibly how many children they want, how far apart they want them, and when. The real solution to the current crisis of reproductive autonomy is to build a just, sustainable, and compassionate world where people are supported to have the families they want. A world we can proudly pass on to the next generation. Birth rates are falling, and people are not having the number of children they want. High living costs, prejudiced gender norms, and uncertainty about the future are major barriers that prevent millions of people from becoming parents.

To celebrate World Population Day every year, the province organizes many communication activities, commemorative rallies... to strengthen the leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels, the coordination of departments, branches, organizations and the response of all classes of people in implementing population policies. According to Dr. Nguyen Hong Nam, Head of the Population and Children Department (Department of Health ), recently, the province has coordinated with commune and ward health stations and the Women's Union to organize propaganda sessions to mobilize people about the benefits of having 2 children, not getting married late and not having children late. At the propaganda sessions, men and women of childbearing age, newly married, couples who have not yet had 2 children have been provided with information about the benefits of having 2 children, to ensure population balance and structure, reduce financial pressure and health care for women when giving birth late...
