Cho Gao District: Caring for children

To carry out the work of caring for and protecting children, every year, the Party Committee and authorities at all levels of Cho Gao district always include it in the program and action plan for implementation and identify it as one of the top goals. The implementation of the work of protecting and caring for children in the district has always received the attention of all levels, sectors, agencies and benefactors inside and outside the district.

The district is currently managing 28,417 children aged 0-16.

To deepen the work of protecting and caring for children, the district has promoted propaganda work, raised awareness and sense of responsibility of all levels, sectors, cadres and people in caring for and protecting children.

Along with that is equipping knowledge and skills to protect, prevent, and detect early child abuse, strictly handle cases of violations of children's rights, prevent injuries, and prevent drowning for children during the summer...

Localities have also fully implemented policies and regimes for children in general and children in especially difficult circumstances in particular.

Performing the function of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of women and children, in recent times, the work of caring for,educating and protecting children has always been respected and implemented by all levels of the Women's Union of Cho Gao district through the role of mothers and families.

The Standing Committee of the Cho Gao District Women's Union (CWU) has stepped up propaganda and dissemination of the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on children. Regarding child care, Vice President of the Cho Gao District Women's Union Cao Thi Thanh Thao added that, continuing to implement the "Godmother" Program, the District Women's Union and grassroots associations continue to mobilize cadres, women's members and people to participate in social security activities, mobilize resources to support and care for children, victims of abuse, violence and children at risk of violence and abuse; visit, give gifts, scholarships and support medical examination and treatment for poor children, children with disabilities, children in special circumstances, orphans and children affected by the Covid-19 epidemic in the locality.

At the same time, review, consolidate and improve the quality, replicate models and clubs on domestic violence prevention, promote and integrate group meetings, Happy Family Clubs; "Parents care for and develop children" groups, etc.

In parallel, free swimming classes were organized for 67 foster children and children in difficult circumstances in the district, periodic gift support for 50 foster children; 33/33 Happy Family Clubs were organized using Gasl tools with 990 members participating.

The Association at all levels maintains the model of "Parents' Group in Child Care and Development" with 570 members who are fathers and mothers with children aged 0 to 8 years old, organizing quarterly activities, the content of the activities is on the topic of what children need to be healthy, the topic of how to help children be smart and skillful...

The Association at all levels also organized sample meals for children, thereby supporting gifts for 400 poor, disabled and disadvantaged children in the district, with a total value of over 160 million VND. In addition, it also mobilized hundreds of scholarships from benefactors to award to poor students who have overcome difficulties and excelled in their studies."

Le Hoai Thuong (living in Tan Thuan Binh commune) has 4 siblings; the family is in difficult circumstances, the father does not have a stable job, the mother had a traffic accident, the economic situation is very difficult. To care and help her, the Women's Union of Tan Thuan Binh commune has just mobilized to donate some school supplies for the 3 sisters to go to school in the new school year. On the occasion of International Children's Day June 1, the sisters attended the gift-giving meeting, Le Hoai Thuong happily shared: "I am very happy, I will try to study well to continue receiving gifts from the uncles and aunts."

Currently, Cho Gao district is managing and providing regular allowances to 345 children (according to Decree 20/ND-CP of the Government ); 100% of children in special circumstances are supported spiritually and materially, cared for to recover, reintegrate and have opportunities to develop.

The district is currently managing 133 children in the group of children in special circumstances according to the law and the number of children at risk of falling into special circumstances is 849 children. The issuance of medical examination and treatment cards for children under 6 years old is carried out regularly, with timely updates and additions for newborns. Up to now, the purchase of health insurance for children under 6 years old (according to Decision No. 49/2013/QD-UBND dated December 23, 2013) has been 13,681 children (excluding children who are out of age).

Sectors and socio-political organizations have increasingly better coordination, thereby achieving higher efficiency in implementing the goals and National Action Program for Children such as: Child health care, expanded immunization, prevention and control of malnutrition, universal education, care and assistance for children in especially difficult circumstances, children with disabilities, etc.

The work of mobilizing and supporting disadvantaged children through the Children's Support Fund has received much support and response. This is a condition for gradually socializing the work of protecting, caring for and educating children.

Most schools in the district have been upgraded and expanded to ensure the children's learning needs; 100% of 5-year-old children have been enrolled in kindergarten; the rate of children attending school at the right age is 100%; the rate of children graduating from primary school is 100%; the rate of children graduating from secondary school is 100%; the rate of children with disabilities receiving inclusive education is 100%; the district has met national standards for universal primary and secondary education.

In the near future, when organizing the two-level local government in a streamlined, modern, and people-friendly direction, the work of child care and protection will continue to mobilize the participation of the entire political system and the social community, especially poor children and children in especially difficult circumstances, contributing to improving the living environment for children, creating opportunities for children to live in a safe, healthy environment and develop more comprehensively.
