Tien Giang: Vegetable prices increase, farmers are excited

(ABO) Recently, vegetable prices in Tien Giang province have increased. Farmers are very excited because they have made good profits.

In the eastern districts of the province, after the rainy season began, water sources for production were favorable, farmers increased vegetable planting. According to records, at this time, prices of many types of leafy vegetables and fruits are at high levels.

Mr. Tran Cong Thanh's family (Thanh Phu hamlet, Thanh Tri commune, Go Cong Tay district) grows 1 hectare of vegetables. Because this year the water source is favorable, his family plants continuously. This year, the family sows green mustard and sells it for 7,500 VND/kg.

Mr. Thanh shared: “For more than a week now, the price of vegetables has increased again, so everyone is happy, recovering from the previous crop. But more than a month ago, mustard greens only cost 3,000 - 4,000 VND/kg, so the profit was very little; any garden that failed would be considered to have lost all the wages.”

Vegetable farmers ensure profits thanks to output guaranteed by cooperatives.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Quang, Director of Hoa Thanh General Agricultural Cooperative (Binh Tan Commune, Go Cong Tay District), for about a week now, vegetable prices have begun to increase. Currently, the prices of many types of vegetables in the area such as: green mustard, sweet mustard, Chinese cabbage, Malabar spinach... are at a high level, ranging from 7,000 - 8,000 VND/kg. Particularly, fruits such as: squash, pumpkin, luffa, bitter melon, cucumber... have also increased sharply, at an average level of 8,000 - 10,000 VND/kg. In particular, some prices have increased up to 12,000 - 13,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Quang added: “The price of vegetables has increased by about 5,000 VND/kg compared to nearly 2 months ago. Previously, the price of vegetables had almost hit rock bottom; in some cases, they could not be sold, so gardeners had to uproot them.

The price of vegetables has increased again, so farmers are very happy. With this price, farmers make a lot of profit. However, because it is the rainy season, the productivity is not as good as in the favorable months.
