In his opening speech, Associate Professor Dr. Lam Nhan, Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture, said that the workshop is an opportunity to connect agencies, universities, international organizations and businesses to expand scientific exchanges, aiming to create a new vision for the Vietnamese coffee industry in the global value chain.

The event has special significance as it is associated with the roadmap for building a dossier on "Knowledge of growing, processing and enjoying Central Highlands coffee" to submit to UNESCO for inclusion in the List of good practices for protecting intangible cultural heritage.

This is considered an important opportunity to honor indigenous knowledge, elevate the Vietnamese coffee brand and affirm the Central Highlands' contribution to the world cultural heritage map.

The papers were edited into three main groups: Coffee heritage: local identity and global value (24 papers); Coffee value chain, industry and technology in the context of globalization (16 papers); Coffee, social responsibility and sustainable development (17 papers).

This grouping facilitates academic exchange, helping delegates approach the issue in a systematic and comprehensive manner.

The workshop focused on discussing important issues such as the process of cultural exchange and assimilation through coffee; the localization of coffee practices in the integration period; positioning coffee heritage in socio-economic development and tourism; as well as solutions to preserve and promote local knowledge in planting, caring for, processing and enjoying coffee.

The highlight of the program is the approach to coffee from the perspective of intangible cultural heritage, with the goal of highlighting the global value of the heritage while still preserving local identity, the core element that makes up the vitality of Central Highlands culture.

According to experts, the construction of the profile “Knowledge of growing and processing coffee in Dak Lak” not only records the system of knowledge passed down through many generations, but also contributes to shaping the memory and identity of the community through customs, ethics, social behavior and stories about the journey of coffee cultivation. Such knowledge is the foundation for promoting sustainable development, creating livelihoods, ensuring social security and enhancing the competitiveness of the Vietnamese coffee industry in the international market.

Not only stopping at scientific discussion sessions, the program also brings diverse experiences such as: Coffee meditation, exchanges with cultural subjects practicing heritage at the farm, visiting the World Coffee Museum and learning about three coffee civilizations: Ottoman, Roman and Zen.

This is considered the intersection between traditional heritage and contemporary creativity, contributing to positioning Dak Lak - Vietnam's coffee capital on the global map of cultural heritage and creative industries.

On this occasion, Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture donated 30 million VND to support people affected by recent floods in the province.
