Son Dong district currently has more than 66,200 hectares of forest land, of which more than 34,800 hectares are natural forests, the rest are planted forests. Since the beginning of the year, the District People's Committee has issued many documents directing the management, protection and prevention of forest fires; and has done a good job of disseminating information and propaganda on forestry policies and laws.
Regularly direct district and commune forest protection forces and forest owners to increase patrolling and forest inspection at the root, focusing on natural forest areas bordering and key forests prone to fires and deforestation to promptly detect, prevent and strictly handle violations. Direct the effective organization of forest fire prevention and control work, and repair forests damaged by storm No. 3...
However, according to the report of the District Forest Protection Department, due to the dry weather lasting for many consecutive days, from April 12 to 16, 11 forest fires occurred in the district in the communes of Yen Dinh, An Lac, Phuc Son, Giao Liem, Van Son, Huu San, Long Son, Tuan Dao with a total fire area of about 50 hectares (including both production forests and natural forests, special-use forests and protective forests).
Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of forest fires increased by 10 cases, the burned area increased by 42.4 hectares. The locality had to mobilize more than 1,300 people to participate in forest fire fighting.

Speaking at the discussion here, opinions focused on evaluating and analyzing the causes, difficulties, limitations and proposing a number of solutions to improve the effectiveness of forest protection, fire prevention and fighting in the coming time.
Accordingly, the illegal clearing and destruction of natural forests still poses a high risk in most communes; the forest area is mainly concentrated in areas with high, steep terrain, difficult to travel, and difficult to access immediately when a fire is detected; the weather is unusually hot and sunny, always posing a high risk of forest fires in key areas; the sense of responsibility of some forest owners and people living near the forest is still low, especially the burning of gardens, yards, and vegetation after exploitation has caused fires to spread into the forest.
In addition, due to the impact of storm No. 3, the forest area in the district was greatly damaged, the thick vegetation led to a very high risk of forest fires, this is the biggest difficulty in the work of protecting and preventing and fighting forest fires.
Some local authorities and party committees have not really paid attention to forest management, protection, and fire prevention and fighting, and still consider forest management and protection to be the responsibility of the forest rangers and specialized forest protection forces. When a forest fire occurs, they are still confused in directing and mobilizing local forces to participate in fire fighting.
Specialized equipment, machinery, and tools are still lacking and do not meet requirements. Investigation of the subjects and causes of forest fires is facing many difficulties. Progress in reclaiming illegally encroached forest land is still slow...
The opinions also suggested that the State continue to pay attention to allocating funds for forest protection and forest fire prevention and fighting in the area such as: Construction of firebreaks; support communes and forest owners with machinery, equipment, means, and forest fire protection; and have adequate funding to support forces participating in forest fire fighting.
Strengthen forest patrols and inspections, especially in border areas. When a forest fire is detected, it is necessary to coordinate well with relevant units and localities; carry out the "4 on-site" work in forest fire prevention and fighting; protect and preserve the scene of the natural forest fire for regeneration...
Assessing that the forest fire situation is still complicated and has many unpredictable risks, in the coming time, Son Dong district will continue to direct functional agencies to strengthen inspection and supervision of protection management and fire prevention and fighting in communes, towns and forest management boards.
At the same time, focus on investigating, clarifying the causes, and strictly handling related violations. Continue to promote the dissemination of the Forestry Law and effectively organize and implement forest fire prevention and fighting; maintain duty schedules, provide forest fire warning information, and mobilize forces to participate in timely fire fighting when a forest fire occurs.
At the same time, direct the People's Committees at the commune level to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state management in forest protection and forest fire prevention and fighting; strengthen coordination with functional agencies to regularly patrol and inspect forests, focusing on key forests for forest fires, deforestation, encroachment, and illegal use of forest land to promptly detect, prevent, and handle acts of forest encroachment at the grassroots level...
