In the 2024 Summer-Autumn crop, the district experienced unusual weather conditions. At the beginning of the crop, heavy rains caused flooding in newly planted rice areas. Near the end of the crop, the impact of storm No. 3 ( Yagi ) caused heavy rains and floods, causing early-season rice in the green-ripe stage to fall over, and large-scale rice areas in the flowering-drying stage to fall over, with a high rate of empty rice, reducing the yield of rice and other crops. However, under the close leadership and direction of the Party Committee and authorities from the district to the grassroots level and the efforts of the people in the district to overcome difficulties, the production of the 2024 Summer-Autumn crop ensured the planned area and minimized damage caused by natural disasters.
Specifically: The whole district has cultivated nearly 7,100 hectares, of which more than 6,500 hectares are rice, with a yield of 55.2 quintals/ha. The rice variety structure continues to shift towards reducing the area of hybrid rice and increasing the area of high-quality rice and sticky rice. Many communes have over 90% of the area of high-quality rice and sticky rice such as: Yen Thang, Yen Mac, Khanh Duong, Yen Tu, Yen Lam.
Regarding crops, the total planting area is more than 566 hectares, mainly green beans, soybeans, peanuts, sweet potatoes, corn, and various vegetables.
In the 2024 Summer-Autumn crop, the district has implemented 4 projects to apply the new Dai Thom 8 rice variety, using Song Gianh organic fertilizer, applying new technical advances in rice production on a scale of more than 49 hectares. Thereby helping to reduce costs, improve product quality, and increase profits by 2.9 million VND/ha compared to traditional production. In addition, the district has actively implemented policies to support agricultural economic development according to Resolution 32 of the Provincial People's Council. Of which, 11 projects have been implemented to support the application of mechanization in production, including: unmanned aircraft spraying pesticides, agricultural tractors, Japanese Kubota rice transplanters, contributing to increasing the rate of mechanization in production, ensuring the season, reducing production costs, reducing environmental pollution, protecting the health of producers, improving economic efficiency and income for people.
According to the assessment, the 2025 Summer-Autumn crop will have complex and unpredictable weather conditions, while the situation of pests and diseases in the Summer-Autumn crop will be high and complicated. Therefore, the district has set specific goals, including striving to plant 6,989 hectares, and the area of cooperation and product consumption with enterprises will strive to reach 200 hectares or more. The district also sets a goal for the 2025 Summer-Autumn crop to strive to have over 500 hectares of rice planted, of which 75 hectares will be machine-planted. To ensure the set goals and plans, the district has specific technical solutions on the structure of varieties, rice fields, and planting season. Accordingly, the Early Summer-Autumn crop will be planted before July 5, sown before June 30, the Medium Summer-Autumn crop will be planted before July 15, and sown before July 10.
In the immediate future, the district will continue to direct localities, agricultural cooperatives and people to monitor weather developments and the situation of pests and diseases to ensure that the Winter-Spring rice grows well. At the same time, it is ready to mobilize forces to harvest quickly with the motto "green at home is better than old in the field" to limit the impact of early-season storms and free up land for the 2025 Summer-Autumn crop.
Also at the conference, delegates summarized the PCTT-TKCN work in 2024 and deployed tasks for 2025.
In 2024, under the influence of storms No. 2 and No. 3, the district suffered damage to rice, crops, aquatic products and a number of irrigation works and projects. However, with the motto of "four on-site", the District People's Committee directed units to promptly overcome damage to works, gradually renovate and upgrade irrigation, drainage and flood protection dykes. Communes and towns directed agricultural cooperatives to dredge, clear water flows, and repair works serving natural disaster prevention and control. During the year, the district implemented the repair, upgrade and construction of 8 projects serving disaster prevention and control with a budget of nearly 52 billion VND.
In 2025, to proactively carry out disaster prevention and control work in the face of complex and unpredictable weather developments, Yen Mo district has strengthened its direction and proposed specific tasks and solutions, including: strengthening the Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue Command Committees at all levels; reviewing, updating and supplementing disaster prevention and control plans, preparing response plans for all levels of natural disaster risks; identifying specific disaster prevention and control priorities to develop and complete disaster prevention and control plans of all levels and sectors according to the "four on-site" motto, ensuring details, specificity, and suitability to the characteristics and conditions of each locality; inspecting and urging the preparation of "four on-site" in sectors, communes, towns, villages, hamlets and households living outside the dike. In addition, strengthening propaganda, disseminating knowledge, and providing guidance on prevention and response skills for all types of natural disasters so that people know and implement them; Promote the emulation movement "Proactively prevent and combat natural disasters, build safe communities"... to ensure the safety of people's lives and property and the State, and minimize damage caused by natural disasters.
On this occasion, Yen Mo District People's Committee announced the Decision to commend and award Certificates of Merit of the Provincial People's Committee Chairman to 9 collectives and 10 individuals with outstanding achievements in building Yen Mo district to meet the standards of an advanced new rural district.
