Hyeri returns as a genius student, in the top 0.1% of the school

On July 17, the crew of “Friendly Competition” announced that Hyeri will star in the project.

Based on a popular webtoon of the same name, the coming-of-age mystery thriller will revolve around the relationships of teenage girls in a survival competition that is even more intense than the entrance exam.

The story takes place at Chaehwa Girls' High School, home to the top 1% of students in Korea, when Woo Seul Gi, who comes from a local orphanage, transfers to the school but does not fit in with the environment.

In the film, Hyeri plays Yoo Jae Yi - a student at Chaehwa Girls' High School who holds great power as she comes from a noble family. At the same time, she has a beautiful appearance, a high IQ, and is a genius student in the top 0.1% of the school.

Aware of her advantages, Yoo Jae Yi is also very good at manipulating situations. However, her life changes when she takes an interest in her new classmate Woo Seul Gi, leading to a precarious relationship where the line between friendship and obsession becomes blurred.

Ten Asia commented that “Friendly Competition” depicting the free-spirited lives of teenage girls obsessed with competition is expected to be one of the most anticipated projects of 2025.

In addition, in this project, Hyeri is expected to have a new transformation, becoming a character who hides her true self behind a perfect appearance. This is also the latest work after 2 years of the female singer's absence from the small screen, since the movie " 100 Won Butler " in 2022.

Along with filming the TV series, on August 14, the movie set in 1999, “Victory” starring Hyeri and Park Se Wan will also be released in theaters in Korea.

Previously, the female star confessed that at first she hesitated whether to accept the role or not because the script was too good and because she thought she could not play the role well.

However, after meeting the director, Hyeri's doubts turned into trust. Thanks to that, she was happy to be given the opportunity to portray the role of Pil Seon with a new, youthful color.
