In Cong Da hamlet, Phu Tan commune, union member Dang Van Mai implements a commercial chicken farming model, bringing in a good income. Graduated as an aquaculture engineer in 2020, after 2 years working at an aquatic medicine company in Soc Trang province, he returned to his hometown to start a business.
Grasping market demand, in 2022, he boldly invested in a commercial chicken farming model. At first, due to lack of capital, he only raised a few dozen chickens on a small scale, then sold chickens to neighbors. Seeing that chickens were easy to raise and sell, he decided to expand the model, but lacked investment capital. Accordingly, the Commune Youth Union coordinated with the People's Credit Fund to advise the Commune People's Committee to create conditions for Mr. Mai to borrow capital to develop livestock farming.
With a loan of 40 million VND from the district's Social Policy Bank for Employment, Mr. Mai expanded his chicken farming model. Up to now, the flock has been expanded to more than 250 chickens. According to the rotating farming cycle, each year he sells 4 batches, each batch from 120-150 chickens, the selling price is from 100-120 thousand VND/kg. He sells wholesale to restaurants and wedding cooking services in Phu Tan commune, Cai Doi Vam town, plus the money from selling breeding chickens, each year his family earns a profit of 70-80 million VND. Currently, his family has a stable life, has paid off the bank loan, and has capital to invest in expanding the scale of farming.

In Phu Tan commune, Mr. Hong Van Lau, a member of Cai Nuoc Bien hamlet, effectively used the loan capital from the district's Social Policy Bank to develop a model of producing one-sun-dried mackerel. Borrowing 50 million VND from the 2023 job support fund, Mr. Lau invested in buying a freezer, a vacuum sealer, and buying fresh fish to process one-sun-dried mackerel into finished products. His family's one-sun-dried mackerel products are known and favored by customers. Not only does he sell wholesale and retail to customers inside and outside the district, he also sells to customers in the provinces of Bac Lieu, Hau Giang, Can Tho, Soc Trang, Tien Giang and Ho Chi Minh City. From one-sun-dried mackerel products, his family earns a profit of 20-30 million VND per month.

Mr. Lau shared: “I thank the district People's Credit Fund for supporting me in the past time. Thanks to the bank's loan, my family has the conditions to do business and develop the economy . In the future, I will expand the scale of production”. Currently, Mr. Lau's sun-dried mackerel product is assessed by the locality to meet food safety and hygiene quality, meets quality inspection and is preparing documents to submit to the Phu Tan District OCOP Product Classification Council to recognize the product as meeting 3-star OCOP standards.
As for Ms. Le Thi Ngach, Secretary of the Youth Union of Cai Nuoc Bien Hamlet, in 2023, she decided to borrow capital from the Social Policy Bank to establish a fashion sewing cooperative at home, with her as the group leader, to both increase income and help local women have jobs on the spot, improving the family economy. Ms. Ngach said: "I have sewing skills but do not have enough capital, so I proposed to the Commune Youth Union and was supported with a timely loan."
With 50 million VND from the employment fund of the district's Social Policy Bank, Ms. Ngach bought a sewing machine, an overlock machine... Currently, the Cai Nuoc Bien hamlet fashion sewing cooperative has attracted 6 members, who are local women. Initially, the group only accepted to sew fashion designs, uniforms for agencies, schools, and uniforms for teachers and students. But after a period of implementation, the women learned from each other and improved their skills, so Ms. Ngach linked up with sewing factories in Ho Chi Minh City to receive more garments for processing, helping the women increase their income.
The sewing team, led by Ms. Le Thi Ngach, creates jobs for many local female workers.
Ms. Ngach shared: "Currently, I earn 7-8 million VND per month, and the women in the group also earn 3-5 million VND."
Mr. Luu Van Hau, Deputy Secretary of Phu Tan Commune Youth Union, said: "In the near future, the Commune Youth Union will continue to coordinate with the district's Social Policy Bank to support loans for young union members in the commune to develop the local economy."
In recent times, policy credit capital has partly met the capital needs of many young people in production investment and economic development. Through the activities of receiving entrusted loans from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, Youth Union officials at all levels in the district have promptly grasped more closely the thoughts and aspirations of young people from the grassroots level; advised, guided, and supported young people in need of loans. Thereby, creating a connection between the Youth Union organization and young people.
Thanks to that, most of the cases that received loans built production models suitable to the conditions of each locality such as: raising livestock, poultry; raising crabs, raising goby fish, raising shrimp, raising frogs... Up to now, the district has over 28 economic models owned by young people, with an average income per household of 80-100 million VND/year.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Linh, Secretary of the District Youth Union, said: “In the future, the Standing Committee of the District Youth Union will continue to support young people in accessing capital sources; proactively advise local Party committees and authorities to allocate budget sources to implement preferential credit programs, supporting young people in starting businesses. Promote activities to search for and connect with businesses to establish investment funds. Thereby, helping young people access capital sources for starting businesses .”
Up to now, Phu Tan District Youth Union has managed 56 savings and loan groups, with 3,068 households of young people borrowing, with a total outstanding debt of more than 99 billion VND. In order for credit capital to be a lever for economic development among young people, the District Youth Union has created all conditions for young people in the district to access preferential loans, and has done a good job of entrusting loans from the district's Social Policy Bank.
