iPhones in the coming years will be very different.

Apple may change the iPhone design every year, moving towards a more modern camera setup and a notch-less display.

According to a source from the Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, Apple plans to change the iPhone design for three consecutive years, from 2025 to 2027.

In a Weibo post, this person stated that Apple plans to change the “industrial design” for various iPhone components over the next three years.

The changes revolved around the rear camera system, the front-facing components, and ultimately the complete removal of the components above the screen, switching to a notch-less design.

Expected to launch in September, the iPhone 17 will be the first device in the plan. According to MacRumors , Apple may change the design of the iPhone 17's back panel, focusing on a new camera module shape.

While retaining the triangular lens arrangement, rumors suggest the camera module will be rectangular, spanning the entire width of the back panel. Components such as the LED flash, microphone, and LiDAR sensor will be moved to the right.

If the rumors are accurate, this would be the biggest change to the camera design on the iPhone since the iPhone 11 Pro switched to a square camera module in 2019.

By 2026, the front of the iPhone will have a new design. Apple is expected to remove the Dynamic Island – the pill-shaped notch containing the selfie camera and Face ID components, which first appeared on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022.

Instead of a pill-shaped notch, the front of the product might just have a single circular hole for the selfie camera, with the Face ID components hidden underneath.

A patent published earlier this year revealed that Apple has successfully integrated Face ID under the screen. The company's solution allows infrared light to pass through the screen without loss of quality, by eliminating some sub-pixels (red, blue, green) in the sensor area.

In early May, The Information also published similar information, stating that under-display Face ID technology would appear on the iPhone 18 Pro. An Apple partner also expects to implement this technology on smartphones in 2026.

By 2027, Apple is aiming to create an iPhone with a seamless display, free of notches or cutouts visible to the naked eye. This means the selfie camera and Face ID will be located beneath the screen, creating a truly "full-screen" iPhone.

The post doesn't specify whether the changes will apply to all models or only the Pro line. Traditionally, Apple introduces new display and camera technology on its high-end models before bringing it down to the standard line.

For example, Dynamic Island first appeared on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022 before being added to the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. Similarly, the Action button also appeared first on the iPhone 15 Pro before being included on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.
