According to leaker Digital Chat Station (China), Apple plans to change the iPhone design for 3 consecutive years, from 2025 to 2027.
In a post on Weibo , the person said Apple plans to change the “industrial design” for various parts of the iPhone over the next three years.
The changes revolve around the rear camera system, front components, and finally completely removing the components above the screen, switching to a notch-free design.
Expected to launch in September, the iPhone 17 will be the first device in the plan. According to MacRumors , Apple may change the design of the back of the iPhone 17, focusing on the camera cluster with a new shape.
While retaining the triangular lens arrangement, rumors suggest the camera cluster will be rectangular, spanning the entire width of the back. Components such as the LED flash, microphone, and LiDAR sensor have been moved to the right.
If the rumors are correct, this would be the biggest change to the camera design on an iPhone since the iPhone 11 Pro switched to a square camera cluster in 2019.
The front of the iPhone will get a new design in 2026. Apple is expected to remove the Dynamic Island - the pill-shaped hole that houses the selfie camera and Face ID components, which first appeared on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022.
Instead of a pill-shaped notch, the front of the product may only have a round hole for the selfie camera, with the Face ID components hidden underneath.
A patent published earlier this year showed that Apple had succeeded in integrating Face ID under the screen. The company’s solution allows infrared light to be transmitted through the screen without losing quality, by removing some of the sub-pixels (red, blue, green) in the area where the sensor is located.

In early May, The Information also posted similar information, saying that under-screen Face ID technology will appear on the iPhone 18 Pro. An Apple partner also expects to apply this technology on smartphones in 2026.
By 2027, Apple is looking to create an iPhone with a full screen, without any visible cutouts or holes. This means the selfie camera and Face ID will be located under the screen, creating a truly “all-screen” iPhone.
The post doesn’t say whether the changes will apply to all models or just the Pro line. Apple traditionally introduces new display and camera technology on its high-end models before bringing it down to the standard line.
For example, Dynamic Island first appeared on the 2022 iPhone 14 Pro before being added to the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. Similarly, the Action button also appeared first on the iPhone 15 Pro before being available on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.
