Israel releases video of Hamas leader hiding with wife and children in tunnel in Gaza

According to Channel 12, the unverified footage is about 1 minute long and was filmed from a Hamas surveillance camera in the tunnels on October 10, just 3 days after Hamas' October 7 attack on Israel.

The footage, which is believed to show Hamas leader Sinwar and members of his family, is seen being led from one tunnel to another under the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis. Sinwar is believed to be behind the October 7 attack.

The video was later obtained by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Reports say the IDF is analyzing the footage, which shows Sinwar looking healthy, carrying a bag and wearing flip-flops.

The man believed to be Sinwar's younger brother was holding a flashlight to lead the way.

Last week, Channel 12 reported that security sources believed Sinwar had been “out of touch” with Qatari and Egyptian mediators for some time, possibly more than two weeks, while talks on a possible ceasefire continued.

Sinwar is believed to be using Hamas' tunnel system to evade advancing IDF troops.

Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the search for Sinwar would not stop.

“This video or that video is not really important. What is important is the intelligence that will allow us to reach senior Hamas officials and the hostages,” he added.

The image is believed to be of Sinwar's son and daughter.

The IDF announced in November 2023 that it had isolated Sinwar in an underground bunker in northern Gaza, and on December 6, 2023, the Israeli military believed it had surrounded him in his home in Khan Younis.

It is unclear whether the Hamas leader is in hiding or because communications in Gaza have been disrupted. There are reports that he may be in Rafah, Gaza's most populous city with a population of more than 1.4 million.

Hamas has not commented on this video.
