Prime Minister: At least 1.5% discount on 500,000 billion VND credit program

This afternoon, May 29, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and chaired the event of Digital Transformation Day of the Banking Industry in 2025 with the theme "Smart Digital Ecosystem in the New Era".

Reporting to the Prime Minister, Governor of the State Bank Nguyen Thi Hong said that for the banking industry, data is the "key" to connecting the open ecosystem, turning banks into platforms that integrate digital values from healthcare,education , to commerce... bringing a seamless, continuous experience.

Data is also an input into decision-making processes, improving operational efficiency, helping to predict risks, prevent fraud and protect the national financial system.

Up to now, the banking industry has continuously innovated and upgraded centralized data infrastructure, connecting with industries and fields, gradually building a sustainable smart digital ecosystem.

Governor Nguyen Thi Hong affirmed that the digital transformation of the banking industry has gone through proud stages: " The interbank electronic payment system has processed an average of 820 trillion VND per day. Meanwhile, the financial switching and electronic clearing system processes 26 million transactions per day.

The national credit information infrastructure has been upgraded to increase the ability to process and update data automatically, while expanding, collecting and updating data inside and outside the industry with a high rate of successful data updates from credit institutions reaching over 98%. More than 113 million customer records, individuals and more than 711 thousand customer records of organizations have been compared with biometric information, reaching more than 66% of the total number of payment accounts.

On this occasion, banks demonstrated many new and modern technologies, demonstrating the remarkable and in-depth development of products and services.

Expressing his joy when the Governor of the State Bank announced the VND500,000 billion credit program with 21 commercial banks registering to participate in lending to strategic infrastructure projects such as transportation, electricity, digital infrastructure... with preferential interest rates reduced by 1% or more compared to medium and long-term lending rates, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested: "Banks cut spending, cut costs for people and businesses, save more on their operations, save more on labor. I propose that this VND500,000 billion package be reduced by at least 1.5%".

The Prime Minister believes that the program will create a great push, providing more resources for strategic infrastructure projects, developing the private economy, creating more jobs, and contributing to promoting growth.

Propose that the State Bank urgently organize and implement the 500,000 billion VND credit program to ensure feasibility, efficiency, timeliness, and correct objectives and targets to encourage businesses to invest and promote economic growth.

Regarding the goal of digital transformation in the banking industry in the coming time, the Prime Minister emphasized: " The most important and overarching goal in digital transformation in the banking industry is to connect, especially commercial banks with the people and the State more and more conveniently. Thereby contributing to the rapid and sustainable development of the country; contributing to the development of digital government, digital society, digital citizens, contributing to stabilizing the macro economy, ensuring the great balance of the economy".

The Prime Minister suggested that in the coming time, the entire banking industry should proactively take advantage of opportunities and make a breakthrough from the positive impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to orient the activities of digital transformation in the banking industry, apply modern technology, innovate and create associated with developing high-quality human resources, diversifying banking products and services, developing an inclusive electronic payment infrastructure and ensuring network security and information safety, aiming for transparency in operations, preventing corruption, negativity and waste.

At the same time, we believe that, with the initiative, determination and efforts of the State Bank and the entire banking industry, the national digital transformation will have many positive and comprehensive changes, bringing practical benefits to businesses and people and contributing positively to the socio-economic development of the country.
