High-speed rail expected to be launched in Q1/2027

Hoa Phat said the steel rail and profile steel production line will have a capacity of 700,000 tons/year and produce the first high-speed rail products in the first quarter of 2027.

According to Hoa Phat , the output products will be special types of steel that no Vietnamese enterprise has been able to produce. For example, steel for urban railway rails, crane rails, high-speed railway rails, or U, I, H, V-shaped steel and special steel, serving key national railway projects and exporting to international markets.

Currently, only a few large steel corporations in the world can produce high-speed railway steel such as Voestalpine (Austria), JFE (Japan), Baosteel (China), JWS Steel (Italy)...

To achieve this result, Hoa Phat has signed a technology supply contract with SMS Group (Germany) and the line is expected to be completed in 20 months. Accordingly, the international partner will design, supply and install the production line of rail steel and special steel for Hoa Phat.

With the investment, Hoa Phat Group will become the only enterprise in Southeast Asia capable of producing steel rails for high-speed railways.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hoa Phat Group Tran Dinh Long said that the group focuses on promoting the production of high-quality steel to serve the railway, oil and gas, energy and defense industries, contributing to replacing high-quality steel products that must be imported.

"In keeping with its commitment to the Government , Hoa Phat has invested in a factory to produce rail steel, shaped steel and special steel, ensuring the supply of the best quality products at competitive prices, serving high-speed railway projects in particular and key national projects in general," Mr. Long emphasized.

Previously, in early February, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and worked at the Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Complex and asked Hoa Phat to continue researching the production of high-quality steel, especially producing steel rails for the North-South high-speed railway, railway lines connecting with China, and urban railways in the coming time.
