Director James Cameron has denied rumors he is in talks to direct a film about the submarine Titan that is believed to have exploded during a voyage to explore the wreck of the Titanic, killing five passengers.

"I don't usually respond to insulting rumors in the media, but I need to now. I'm not making a Titan movie, never," James Cameron wrote in a blunt post on Twitter on the morning of July 15.
Some believe James Cameron will make a movie about the Titan disaster. The 69-year-old filmmaker has become the public's expert on all things Titanic since he was involved in the production of the film in 1997.
James Cameron appeared in an interview on ABC News to criticize the OceanGate company and give his thoughts on the disaster.

"Some people in the deep-diving community have even written to say that what they're doing is an experimental process for taking passengers to the bottom of the sea and that it needs to be certified. I remember the Titanic disaster, where the captain was repeatedly warned of a huge iceberg ahead of the ship but he still went full speed ahead on a moonless night. As a result, many people died. For us, Titan is a similar tragedy where warnings were not heeded," said James Cameron.
The US Coast Guard has discovered new debris around the Titanic wreckage. Within hours, it was confirmed that those aboard the missing submersible Titan are presumed to have died in a “catastrophic explosion” on the ship. Contact with the Titan was lost on June 18, 2023.
James Cameron is currently working on the third installment of Avatar following the box office success of Avatar: The Way of Water . The third installment will hit theaters on December 19, 2025.
