Through the Forum, managers, policy makers, businesses, traders, and industry associations of both countries exchange information, share experiences, connect businesses for cooperation, and propose sustainable solutions to promote and increase the consumption of Vietnamese seafood products to the Chinese market and vice versa.
China is one of the largest and traditional markets for importing Vietnamese agricultural products. With a population of nearly 1.4 billion people, consumer habits and tastes quite similar to Vietnam and a convenient geographical location - with a land border between Vietnam and China of more than 1,450 km long passing through 7 provinces of Vietnam, the demand for importing agricultural, forestry and fishery products from Vietnam to serve China's production and consumption is very large and continuously increasing.
In 2022, agricultural, forestry and fishery trade between Vietnam and China reached 14.2 billion USD, up 12.7% compared to 2021. Of which, the export value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products to China reached 10.4 billion USD, up 10.4% compared to 2021. In the first 11 months of 2023, agricultural, forestry and fishery trade between the two countries is estimated at 14.1 billion USD, up 11% over the same period, of which exports are estimated at 11.1 billion USD, up 20.6% over the same period.
Vietnam's main agricultural, forestry and fishery products exported to China include: vegetables, rubber, seafood, wood and wood products, rice, cassava and cassava products, cashews, coffee, tea, etc.
Mong Cai City is located in the economic belt of the Gulf of Tonkin, an important connection point in the cooperation of “Two corridors, one belt” between Vietnam and China. This is the largest border economic zone in Vietnam, with a relatively synchronous, convenient and increasingly complete infrastructure system.
The total value of imported and exported goods through Mong Cai border gate in the period of 2010-2023 reached over 45 billion USD, achieving an average growth rate of 22.5%/year (in the period of 2018-2023, the import and export turnover reached 21.33 billion USD). In the first 9 months of 2023, the total import and export turnover of goods reached over 2.6 billion USD, an increase of 5% over the same period in 2022.
The forum received many comments, participation and exchanges from delegates on opportunities, challenges, specific and practical solutions to connect and expand markets, improve competitiveness, create a breakthrough in building a healthy and sustainable agricultural, forestry and fishery import and export business environment. From there, Mong Cai, together with other localities in the country, will continue to make an important contribution to promoting the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in particular and potential products in general through the Vietnam - China border gates.
